ACCUMULATION: CHAOS OR
COORDINATION?
Gudrun Hasle (GH): We got invited by Den Frie Centre
of Contemporary Art to do a show and we had a lot of
discussions about how we should do it, because we do
not see ourselves as an artist group. We see ourselves
more as running an alternative project where we give

lesser opportunities here in Copenhagen. So that is sort
of how we see ourselves. We are all very individual and
that was also how Koh-i-noor was made. The discussion

ended up with a concept where two members of Koh-

the idea about how Koh-i-noor is functioning. We each
invited two artists and they each invited one more
person to be in the show. So in total we were 40 artists
in the show and the members of Koh-i-noor were also
John Herschend (JH): Does the theme “accumulation”
encounter the selection of artists and the installation of
the exhibition, or is that different?
GH: It has been a problem, and we had a lot of problems in
curating the show, especially with concept development
and planning, because we wanted it to be free. One of
the most important things in the show and in Koh-i-noor

and not us as curators. It was important to create space
for the art and the artists, and not so much for the
curation of the show. When you go through the show the

Jesper Carlsen (JC): I am quite happy about this project
because the format is so free, and does not dictate the
artists, and thus we could all commit to the project in all
being curators. One member curates and has control over
