Since early July the mixing facility has produced up to 1,000 tonnes of material for tread and Ringtread
production as well as for mould cure retreading
quired before the new mixing facility reaches optimal operation.
And it is this premium market segment in which Marangoni (and
its direct competitors) faces competition from the new tyre industry,
while at the same time experiencing what Ferrari calls the “polarisation
of the European retreading markets”, in which new entrants into
the market are more or less attacking the price segment ‘from underneath’.
The Marangoni managing director attributes a market
share of between 30 and 40 per cent to these new market participants,
a proportion that approximately tallies with a TYRES & ACCES-
SORIES survey of current market position. However Giuseppe Ferrari
is entirely confident that the company’s further growth within the
price segment will enable it to “ward off the competition from outside
of Europe.”
Marangoni management in Verona also realise that this will not
only happen through Ringtread treads and premium compounds.
When taking a look at Marangoni’s market share within the European
precure retreading sector, the 2007 figure of 26 per cent shows that
the Italian company cannot afford to position itself solely in the premium
segment, even when “it is our strong point.” The fact is that
there are price-sensitive customers for whom rolling resistance is
not and doesn’t need to be a priority, as their vehicles are used in
mixed operations. Marangoni also offers a product range for such
customers. Alongside the traditional Profil-Liner and Classico treads,
Marangoni now offers what it calls the ‘Unitread’ precure tread
range. Against this backdrop of market polarisation and differentiation
of the Marangoni range it makes, incidentally, no sense to further
modernise production in Ferentino and possibly install a mixing
facility like that at Ellerbrock there. The reason for this is that the
Group’s various factories serve the needs of various market segments.
There are “good reasons” for the market leader to be present
in all of these segments. arno.borchers@reifenpresse.de/sg
Optimum aus der neuen Mischerei herausgeholt
ist.
Und es ist dieses Premiummarktsegment,
in dem Marangoni (und dessen direkte Mitbewerber)
sich mit dem Wettbewerb durch die
Neureifenindustrie konfrontiert sieht, gleichzeitig
aber auch durch „die Polarisierung des europäischen
Runderneuerungsmarktes“, so Ferrari,
quasi „von unten“ durch neue Marktteilnehmer
aus dem Preissegment angegriffen
wird. Solchen neuen Marktteilnehmern billigt
der Marangoni-Geschäftsführer immerhin einen
Marktanteil von 30 bis 40 Prozent zu; dies
entspricht Erhebungen der NEUE REIFENZEI-
TUNG zufolge deren ungefährer aktuellen
Marktposition.
in Verona.
