Solving complex tasks
In the large-scale machining department, customised designs are cre-
ated as individual items or in mini-series, and machine construction
solves many difficult tasks.
“For me, parts cannot be big enough”,
says Edi Hurschler, smiling.
The eid. dipl. mechanic is standing at
the operator panel of a huge flatbed
milling machine. The objective is to
produce a vacuum chamber that will
be subsequently used in a special
machine. The electronic control unit
incorporates four main and some
150 sub-programmes, and Hurschler
spent a whole week working on
them – a huge effort for a single
piece. “But it’s simply not possible
to achieve the precision that the customer
requires by other means”,
explains Hurschler. Programming is
one thing, and comprehensive mechanical
knowledge another. And
for that, professional experience is
required above all. During programming,
Hurschler pays particular
attention to ensuring that the processes
are simple. Now, the workpiece
only needs to be clamped three
times. In most cases, these complex
machine parts are only produced in
micro series. The mechanical engineering
is specialised in such contracts
which also include, for example,
the drilling of the enormous
wheels of several metres diameter
that are used in ropeway construction.
A melting furnace weighing 35
tonnes
One of the biggest contracts over the
last few years was the construction
of a new melting furnace for Flumroc
AG in Flums that was realised
in just 2 months in cooperation with
partner companies from the Cobinet
Group. In the colossal machine that
weighs 35 tonnes, rock wool fibres
for insulation mats are produced
at temperatures of 1500 degrees.
Another custom-made item was a
hydraulically operated splitter which
breaks down mighty blocks of stone
into manageable sizes in a matter
of minutes. Since 2002, between 25
and 35 complex handling robots produced
per year. In many cases, mechanical
engineering also includes
welding technology, which uses
different techniques (MIG, MAG,
TIC). To meet the relevant quality
standards and customer requirements,
Bartholet Maschinenbau AG
holds the comprehensive qualification
certificate in welding according
to DIN 18800-7.
