Ende September verließ ein mit 40 Containern beladener Zug den Umschlagbahnhof Leipzig-Wahren.
Der Containerzug bringt Teile und Komponenten für die Montage von BMW-Fahrzeugen nach China.
Mit 23 Tagen Fahrtzeit auf der knapp 11.000 km langen Strecke unterbietet der direkte Zug den
Transport per Seeschiff und weiter ins Hinterland Chinas um mehr als die Hälfte. Ab Ende November
2011 startet täglich ein solcher Transport ab Leipzig. Die neue transeurasische Strecke vernetzt das
Logistikdrehkreuz Leipzig-Halle mit einem der wichtigsten chinesischen Wachstumsmärkte und stärkt
damit die internationale Ausrichtung des mitteldeutschen Logistikstandortes.
Diese Nachricht macht eines deutlich: Auch nach 175 Jahren Eisenbahn in Deutschland hat das
Verkehrsmittel Bahn kaum an seiner Bedeutung verloren. Zuverlässigkeit und Schnelligkeit zeichnen
dieses Transportmittel noch immer aus. So zählt die Eisenbahn mit zu den genialsten Erfindungen
unserer Vorväter.
Im 19. Jahrhundert hatte die Bahn die Rolle eines Wachstums- und Innovationstreibers inne. Heute geht
es darum, gemeinsam mit der Schiene und den anderen Verkehrssystemen die wachsende Nachfrage
nach Mobilität und Gütertransport umweltverträglich, schnell und verlässlich zu bewältigen. Die
Unternehmen und Einrichtungen der Bahntechnik im Freistaat Sachsen haben daran einen bedeutenden
Anteil. Die bahntechnische Industrie ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der sächsischen Wirtschaft. Sie
erwirtschaftet rund eine Milliarde Euro Umsatz im Jahr und beschäftigt rund 13.000 Mitarbeiter.
Moderne Schienenfahrzeuge, bahntechnische Ausrüstungen und Ingenieursdienstleistungen gehen
von Sachsen in die ganze Welt. Dieser Katalog legt davon Zeugnis ab. Sehen Sie selbst, was Sachsen

At the end of September, a train loaded with 40 containers departed from the Leipzig-Wahren transhipment
terminal. The container train carries parts and components used in the assembly of BMW
vehicles to China. With a transit time of 23 days on the almost 11,000 kilometre long route, the direct
train is twice as fast as transportation via seagoing vessel followed by transport to Chinese hinterland
destinations. Having started at the end of November 2011, such trains leave from Leipzig once a day.
The new Trans-Eurasian route links the Leipzig-Halle logistics hub with one of the most important
Chinese growth markets and therefore strengthens the international orientation of the Central German
logistics centre.
This message makes one thing clear: Even after 175 years of railway in Germany, rail transport has
hardly lost its importance. This means of transport is still marked by reliability and speed. Accordingly,
railway ranks among the most brilliant inventions of our forefathers.
During the 19th century, railway played its role as a growth and innovation driver. Today, the challenge
is to cope with the growing demand for mobility and freight transport jointly with rail and other transportation
systems in an environmentally friendly, fast and reliable way. The rail technology companies
and facilities in the Free State of Saxony made an essential contribution to this. The railway industry is
a significant component of the Saxon economy. It generates revenue of approximately one billion euro
a year and employs around 13,000 people. Modern rail vehicles, railway equipment and engineering
services are sent from Saxony to the whole world. This trade directory bears witness thereof. Please see
