Die Dokumentar-Performance von Winter Family ist eine Reise
zurück in die Kindheit und eine Emanzipation von einem
emotionalen und ethischen Einheitsdiskurs. Ruth Rosenthal
und Xavier Klaine sind jahrelang unter dem Namen Winter
Family in Konzerten und Musikperformances aufgetreten.
2010 entdeckte das Künstlerduo mit »Jerusalem, gegossenes
Blei« zum ersten Mal das Theater für sich.
»A hallucinated trip in an emotional dictatorship« is what
the Israeli-French duo Winter Family calls its examination
of Jerusalem’s history. By means of visual and sound documents,
all made and recorded in Israel, they show their relationship
with the Israeli society and question the manipulation
of emotions that has formed politics as well as everyday life
since childhood. Step by step, and despite historic reports
about military operations and the monotonous wording of
UN resolutions, performer Ruth Rosenthal, alone on stage,
paints a very personal picture of her homeland, whose fears
are so often expressed in a forward escape.
The title of this performance picks up Israel’s contradictions:
»Operation Cast Lead« has become the name for an attack
on Gaza during Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, in
2008. It also refers to a well-known nursery rhyme which is
traditionally sung at Hanukkah and optimistically tells of a
miracle.
Winter Family’s documentary performance is a journey back
to childhood and into emancipation from an emotional and
ethical discourse about national unity. Ruth Rosenthal and
Xavier Klaine have been performing for many years under the
name Winter Family, doing concerts and musical performances.
In 2010, also as an artistic duo, they first explored the
form of theatre in »Jerusalem Cast Lead«.
