In bezug auf die Wichtigkeit des Verstehens, wie die Persönlichkeit auf das
Verhalten in bestimmten Situationen Einfluß nimmt, schreiben Mischel und Shoda
(1995, S.260f):
„Just as a structural diagram of a complex system helps one to understand its
functions, persons who have some understanding of their processing dynamics may
be able to better predict the events and conditions that will activate certain
cognitions and affects them. Such metacognitive knowledge may help the person to
recognize some of the key internal or external stimuli that activate or deactivate the
problematic affects, cognitions, and behaviors and the dynamics that occur in
relation to those stimuli. With this knowledge, individuals may be better able to
influence their personality states and behaviors.“
In eine ähnliche Richtung geht die Aussage von Krohne (1990, S.28), der feststellt:
„The relevance of information about personality dispositions is great if an individual
is confronted with a stress situation that he or she can enter and leave again. Here
prevention of undesirable consequences requires information about people before
they enter a certain stress situation. Information about dispositions would therefore
be critical to predict appraisal, coping, and emotional reactions and outcome
variables such as short-term or long-term consequences.“
Insofern eröffnet die Arbeit auch Ansatzpunkte, auf Basis derer eine individuelle
Vorgehensweise zur Verhaltensänderung entwickelt werden kann. Gerade vor dem
Hintergrund der in den letzten Jahren stetig wachsenden Zahl privater Anleger
(Hennings, Körner & Schipprack, 1999; Jumpertz, 1999) ist die Bedeutung der
Erkenntnisse, die diese Arbeit zu liefern versucht, besonders hoch.
