<strong>Media</strong> Fairs in the <strong>Media</strong> Capital<br />
Cologne Exhibition Centre, with the fifth largest exhibition<br />
facilities in the world and situated in an outstanding location<br />
overlooking Cologne Cathedral on the opposite bank of the<br />
Rhine, is an important driving force for the development of<br />
North Rhine-Westphalia as a media centre.<br />
Over the past few years, the Koelnmesse<br />
(Cologne Fair) strongly extended its<br />
trade fair portfolio in the business segments<br />
Communications & <strong>Media</strong> as well as IT & Digital<br />
Entertainment. Globally leading trade fairs<br />
appreciate the advantages of the Cologne fairground<br />
as well as the conventions and special<br />
events. To long-established events like the<br />
photokina and the medienforum.nrw, new formats<br />
occupying themselves in particular – and<br />
with great success – with new developments in<br />
the world of media and the interactive entertainment<br />
industry have been added.<br />
Cologne <strong>Media</strong> Fairs on the Road to<br />
Success<br />
From 17 to 21 August <strong>2011</strong>, the international<br />
games community will come together<br />
in Cologne for the third time to experience<br />
spectacular innovations and celebrate the<br />
year’s most important games and entertainment<br />
event. In 2010, 254,000 visitors and<br />
505 exhibitors attended the international<br />
trade fair and event highlight for interactive<br />
games and entertainment in the city on the<br />
Rhine. The tried and tested trade fair concept<br />
gets all target groups of the games industry<br />
involved, from developers, publishers and<br />
retailers down to intensive players and the<br />
dynamically growing group of occasional and<br />
spare time players. The fair provides a suitable<br />
offer to each and every target group: the<br />
business centre gives industry and trade an<br />
ideal environment to do business, and in the<br />
entertainment area exhibitors present visitors<br />
the entire world of interactive entertainment<br />
to test and join in.<br />
Following its successful premiere in 2010, the<br />
Conlife Convention for Home Networking and<br />
Connected Life goes into its second round<br />
in <strong>2011</strong>. High-profile experts from practical<br />
business life, politics and research will discuss<br />
the various technologies and fields of application<br />
for solutions in the home networking<br />
segment on 29 and 30 June <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
Imaging Fair with a Long Tradition<br />
The photokina, which has already brought the<br />
global photo world to Cologne since 1950,<br />
can look back on the longest history. More<br />
than 180,000 visitors attended the internationally<br />
leading fair of the imaging industry<br />
in 2010. The who-is-who of the international<br />
photo and imaging industry presented itself<br />
in a very cheerful mood, as 1,251 providers<br />
from 45 countries presented visitors from<br />
more than 160 countries an enormous variety<br />
of new products, technical innovations<br />
and future trends. As a result, the photokina<br />
offered the entire range of the global imaging<br />
market once again in 2010. It thus remains<br />
the only event throughout the world, which<br />
presents image media, image technologies<br />
and image markets so comprehensively and<br />
in its entire variety to both professionals and<br />
consumers. The imaging industry will come<br />
together for the 32nd edition of the photokina<br />
in the fair halls beside the Rhine on 18 to<br />
23 September 2012.<br />
The Business Forum Imaging Cologne, organised<br />
by the photokina at the Convention<br />
Centre North of the Koelnmesse on 1 and 2<br />
March <strong>2011</strong>, also<br />
met with strong<br />

the future and discussed<br />

will take place in<br />

220 Staaten machen die Koelnmesse<br />
zu einem der größten Messeveranstalter<br />
weltweit. Mehr als 2.000 Tagungs- und<br />
sonstige Veranstaltungen finden in den<br />
Congress-Centren statt, die Kapazitäten<br />
für bis zu 19.500 Teilnehmer bieten. Die<br />
Leitmessen in Köln repräsentieren circa<br />
90 Prozent der exportfähigen Weltgüterproduktion.<br />
Cologne is not only an interesting proposition<br />
for the international market when it<br />
comes to the communication, media and<br />
IT-Digital Entertainment sector. »Made<br />
in Cologne« expertise extends to a wide<br />
variety of areas such as homes and<br />
furniture/fittings, food, houses, gardens,<br />
leisure time, fashion, art and culture,<br />
environment, real estate and health. With<br />
aprox. 80 trade fairs per year, 284,000<br />
square metres in hall space, more than<br />
44,000 exhibitors and 2.5 million visitors<br />
from more than 220 countries, Koelnmesse<br />
can well claim to be one of the<br />
largest trade fair organisers in the world.<br />
More than 2,000 conferences and other<br />
events are held in the congress centres,<br />
which offer capacity for up to 19,500<br />
participants. The leading trade fairs in<br />
Cologne represent approximately 90 per<br />
cent of exportable products.<br />
