The use of internal mixers with ram loading process
offers completely new possibilities in process control
for these applications, which results in several great
advantages. In addition there are no limitations regarding
quality and form of the raw materials to be processed,
i.e. natural fibres or wood cutting waste etc.
can be added into the machine being non-precut
just as well as plastic components coming from the
packing-, automotive- and domestic appliance industry,
if a reduction of the virgin plastic content in the
compound is required.
Due to the operating with a partly filled mixer, it is
also not required to pre-dry raw materials as the
water can easily evaporate during the melting- and
filler incorporating phase. Moreover, high filler contents
of 80 % are unproblematic with regard to process
engineering, which has a positive effect on the
compound price.
A look at the compound- and product properties
shows lower water absorption and improved mechanical
properties, which is due to a more intensive link
between plastic and filler respectively natural fibre.
The R&D centre belonging to Harburg-Freudenberger
is a world-wide established centre for state-of-the-art
mixing room technologies and allows for mixing trials
from laboratory- to production scale. This R&D center
