Abstract
With the expansion of renewable but
fluctuating power generation from wind
and solar energy, the demand placed on
the security and reliability of electricity
supply is increasing. To ensure grid stability
in the future, controllable power
production via biogas plants has a great
technical and economic potential
In this context, the Institute of new
Energy Systems at Ingolstadt University
of Applied Sciences and the biogas plant
manufacturer UTS Biogastechnik GmbH,
Hallbergmoos, Germany, are working on
the research project “BioStrom – Controllable
Electricity Production via Biogas
Plants”, funded by the German Federal
Ministry for the Environment, Nature
Conservation and Nuclear Safety
In this project, concepts are generated
and simulations carried out regarding
technical modifications for a controllable
electricity production via biogas plants
with special focus on raw biogas storage,
the CHP-units, the heat supply
for internal and external heat demands,
the controls regarding raw biogas and
electricity production and the monitoring
systems. Further-more, a biogas
plant is modified to produce electricity
on demand and it is optimised during its
operation.
