F rom 01 JAN 06,Slovak ArmedForces became a fully professionalarmy. If you want to come a professional soldier, yoube-have to achieve these main tasks:- Age 18 or more- Reliable- Free of legal obligations- Be fluent in the statelanguage- Not member of politicalparty or movement- Slovakian nationality- Slovakian Residency- Education and qualificationis with accordance ofjob criteria- Attended selection successfully- Healthy, both mentallyand physically- Capable to attend legalactProfessional soldiers cannot bemembers of a political party andcannot join political rallies. Healso cannot run a private business.As a prevention of corruption, inthe beginning of each year, he hasto declare his material possessions.Professional soldiers have a rightfor 6 weeks of leave, but after 20years of service duration is increaseto 7 weeks of vacation. Whensoldier reaches age 35 years, hecan also apply for 2 weeks of occupationaltherapy every year.If a soldier (Sgt and higherranks) is more than 30 km fromhis home, he has an entitlement toadditional allowances for accommodationor quarters. Soldiers underSgt rank have accommodationfor free on military bases.After 15 years of service, all soldiershave an entitlement to receivea pension (approximately 30%of salary). The rate of pensiondepends on how many years youhave been on active duty and whatyour current rank is. After 30 yearsof duty you achieve the maximumamount of pension possible(60% of salary); further years ofservice will not increase the pensionamount.If a Slovakian officer wantsto be promoted, he has to attendUN or NATO missions.Maximum time of deploymentabroad is 12 months.After our duty abroad, allSlovakians soldiers are putinto a personnel reserve.Within three months theywill be placed in unmannedpositions in our army ding to armyaccordemands.Staying in the army is alsolimited by age and rank you received.For example, the maximumlength of duty with the rankof Major is 22 years service in thearmy (approximately 40-42 yearsold soldier).More information about TheSlovak army is available at www.mod.gov.skMaj Vojtech Mojzes10
