A: Hello everybody! Welcome to Austria … I’m Joe Supple. You may know that Austria
is a small country in the middle of Europe. But have you ever heard anything
about the wild people in the Alps? Two of their wild girls are sitting next to me.
Failte romhat go leir Ireland!
B: Hello! And we already know what this Irish sentence means … haha
A: Great! So, you are here to learn the Irish-language or to discover the rest of the
world?
C: Well, at school we had a project and we learned a lot about radio and we made
our own radio transmission in a station.
B: And to do all these things in a different country in a foreign language is a great
experience, so we’re here to help in this station …
A: So your only reason to be here is to work or are you going to do some sightseeing
too?
C: Of course …
B: Friends of ours are in Cork; maybe
we are going to visit them.
C: They’re also doing some kind of
work experience there, also in a radio
station.
B: Nevertheless we want to go to
Dublin.
A: A beautiful city, with its parks and
museums, the famous Trinity College
– founded in 1592, thus the oldest university
in Ireland.
C: Including the Book of Kells?!
A: Yes, one of the most beautiful illustrated
manuscripts in the world, written around the year 800 AD.
B: Don’t forget the Phoenix Park. I’ve read that it’s the largest enclosed urban park
in Europe.
A: You’re right and 1970 the pope held a speech there. Thousands of people were
there. Unfortunately I wasn’t there, but I saw it on television. What do you watch in
Austria?
C: It depends if you have … how to say it … it is a big bowl on your head.
B: You mean house … not head …
A: Austrians wear a big white bowl on their heads to watch television?
B: No, she wanted to say satellite dish on the top of the house.
A: Very strange people … maybe because of the mountains … well, it’s a different
culture. Did you know how Austrians watch television? It’s unbelievable …
C: Okay, we'll show you a photo …
A: Good. Next week we’re going to speak about Italy. I’m looking forward to talking
to you again, but now I have to say goodbye. Slán!
