und Konflikte des Widerstandes dar, setzt ihn zu den
europäischen Entwicklungen der Nachkriegszeit
in Beziehung und analysiert seine Rezeption nach
1945. Geographisch gegliedert, behandelt es den
Widerstand innerhalb der »Achsenmächte«, der
besetzten Gebiete und den Widerstand aus Emigration
und Exil. Die Darstellungen werden durch
Karten und wichtige Dokumente zum Widerstand
ergänzt.

This is the first comprehensive and comparative
survey of resistance to National Socialism and
Fascism in Europe. The Handbook presents the foundations,
forms and conflicts of resistance, relates it
to post-war developments in Europe and analyses its
reception after 1945. It is structured geographically,
dealing with resistance first within the Axis Powers,
then in the occupied territories and finally with
resistance from emigration and exile. The accounts
are complemented with maps and important documents
relating to the resistance movements.

in den Vereinigten Staaten. Schriftstellerinnen und

Gründen nach der Machtübernahme Hitlers ihre
Heimat verlassen mussten, werden hier mit ihren im
Exil verfassten Werken vorgestellt. Außer der Belletristik
werden auch Film, Theater und literaturnahe
Essayistik erschlossen.
Deutschsprachige Exilliteratur seit 1933 provides
an overview of German-speaking exile literature in
the USA. Exiled authors are those German-speaking
authors who emigrated during the Thirties due to
political or ethnic reasons, resulting directly or
indirectly from Hitler’s taking power. Exile literature
refers not to the works of former emigrants after
their return, but to the literature written by emigrants
during their exile. The series includes film, theatre
and literary essays in addition to the belles-lettres.

of German-language exile literature since 1933. The
U.S. is one of the most important asylum countries
for exiles from Germany, but also for exiles from
other European countries where they were expelled
by the Nazis. The book focuses on a part of German
culture as it is reflected in its heteronomy due to
exile in the U.S and also in parts of Central and
South America – including individual biographies
and their social context in history.
