SkiWelt slopes 

The SkiWelt has three speed sections 

alongside its many runs. The longest at 

600 metres is in Ellmau-Going near the 

Almbahn chairlift (98). The Skimovie 

route in Scheffau lets you feel like a racer 

on the slalom slope and films you as you 

go. SkiWelt tours can be discovered in both 

clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. 

Action-packed ski night 

Ellmau Ski Night 

After the last descent into the valley, the fun 

on the slopes continues every Monday with 

the Ellmau Ski Night. Locals and visitors 

meet on the Stanglleit slope in Ellmau from 

8:30 p.m. The huge après-ski party, which

Every winter, the Wilder Kaiser community 

of Söll at the foot of the Hohe Salve is 

transformed into a white arena both day 

and night (Wed-Sat). The largest night ski 

area in Tirol opens 10 kilometres of floodlit 

slopes. The longest night-time slope in 

Austria provides unforgettable hours of 

skiing until the late evening, its valley run 

floodlit until 10:30 p.m. And once you have 

removed your skis, it’s not far to go to enjoy 

some après-ski fun.

Public transport at Wilder Kaiser. The cable cars are 

easily accessible even without a car. The free ski buses 

operating in the Wilder Kaiser region provide a quick and 

easy way to travel to the cable cars and village centres. 

KaiserBad Ellmau. The Wilder Kaiser region even 

has something to satisfy water lovers and climbers in 

winter. The KaiserBad Ellmau is the perfect place to have 

fun and relax whatever the weather.

Ski bus 

Free ski buses bring you quickly and easily 

from countless stops in the villages and 

every large hotel to the cable car valley 

stations. The Going ski bus travels to both 

the Astbergbahn lift (Going) and Hartkaiserbahn 

lift (Ellmau). 

There are many bus services in Ellmau 

that take you to the Hartkaiserbahn gondola 

lift every 15 minutes. In addition to the ski 

buses in Scheffau, there is also a slope from 

the village centre to the valley station, and 

in Söll, you can ski right up to the village 

entrance (roundabout) after the day’s skiing. 

Those in the know leave their gear in the 

ski depot at the lift so they can get to their 

accommodation in comfortable shoes and 

without lugging around any bulky equipment. 

There’s also a free ski bus for guests 

staying near the romantic Hintersteiner See, 

high above Scheffau. As the rather narrow 

and sometimes steep road is often difficult 

to drive with a car in winter, the bus will 

take you from the lake to the valley and the 

Scheffau lift and back again. 

WinterKaiserJet 

NEW: free KaiserJet in winter too! 

In 2018/19, the popular „KaiserJet“ regional 

bus will shuttle back and forward between 

Going, Ellmau, Scheffau and Söll for the first 

time in winter. 

The bus will call at the cable car valley 

stations, village centres, the KaiserBad (indoor 

pool, wellness area, climbing hall and 

indoor tennis court) as well as the winter 

hiking and cross-country trails. 

The service will be provided using a midibus 

with 12 seats and 18 standing places. For this 

first winter it might be full at peak times; in 

which case, we apologise for any inconvenience. 

The Winter KaiserJet can be used free of 

charge by locals and guests holding a valid 

Wilder Kaiser GuestCard or ski pass. It can 

be used with or without ski equipment. 

Dogs must wear a muzzle and be kept on a 

lead. 

Bus ticket 

Take the bus to Kufstein or Kitzbühel 

for just €1.50 The “Wilder Kaiser Bus 

Tickets” are available in all tourist information 

offices and from selected accommodation 

providers for the following Post Bus 

services: 

• 4902 (Söll–Kufstein) 

• 4060 (Wörgl–St.Johann i.T.) 

• 4006 (Ellmau–Kitzbühel) 

• 4051 (Wörgl–Kitzbühel)

person and per journey (changing bus =

These tickets make getting about between 

the villages and visiting the neighboring 

towns cheap and easy. The tickets are valid

Swimming & 

children 

At the KaiserBad Ellmau, the Ellmi’s Friends 

indoor adventure pool and sauna turn a day at 

the pool into fun for all the family. Situated at 

the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range 

in Tirol, the large complex offers something 

for everyone. From the indoor adventure 

pool, parents and children can swim directly 

into the heated outdoor pool, where the water 

is a comfortable 30°C. The Ellmi’s Friends 

adventure area is guaranteed to keep children 

entertained. The children’s area has been 

generously extended to include numerous 

fun and play areas. From water cannons and a 

witch’s house to a jungle bridge, children will 

have a great time at Ellmi’s Friends. 

Sliding fun for the little ones! Few things 

are more exciting for children than experiencing 

the thrill of slides for the first time. 

With the turbo and children’s slides, crawling 

tubes, climbing frame and net tunnels leading 

to the action podium and tipping barrel, there 

is more than enough to keep them amused. 

At Ellmi’s Friends in the KaiserBad, children 

receive a royal welcome. 

Climbing 

Anyone who wants to take a break from 

the water can work off some energy in the 

climbing hall. Whether you’re a beginner 

or seasoned pro looking for somewhere to 

train, the newly built indoor climbing centre 

provides the ideal conditions and plenty 

of space for you to try out your skills. 

The centre provides a climbing area of 

805 m² at a height of up to 16 m and a floor 

space of 

173 m². It features around 100 routes 

varying in difficulty from 3 to 10. Of these 

routes, 35 lines can be climbed simultaneously. 

Safety is of utmost importance to 

the centre, which is why it is equipped with 

two Toppas safety machines. It also boasts a 

small bouldering and warm-up area.

The two indoor courts are the perfect place 

for tennis lovers. 

Spa and sauna 

Keeping your body and soul in harmony 

with the elements is one way of boosting 

health and relaxation. What could be more 

pleasant than spending some time looking 

after your own health and well-being in a 

completely tranquil environment? 

With its panorama sauna made from 

stone pine, natural brine steam bath and 

herbal steam bath, the spa facilities create 

a true haven of relaxation. Made from a 

material traditionally used in the Alps, the 

unique stone pine panorama sauna releases

find the perfect partners to help them carve 

their first turns in the snow among the 9 

ski schools in the villages of Ellmau, Going, 

Scheffau and Söll. Highly qualified ski 

instructors draw on decades of experience 

and use the latest teaching methods to give 

beginners a feel for their chosen sport and 

to help them become confident skiers or 

snowboarders. 

The region’s schools are also on hand 

to help anyone returning to the slopes to 

quickly get back into the swing of things. 

And to help little budding skiers find their 

feet and have fun on the snow, all ski 

schools in the Wilder Kaiser region run 

their own children’s skiing lessons. At the 

KinderKaiserland Scheffau children’s ski 

school, children as young as two are put on 

the right track by learning through play using 

the MiniCarver equipment, which does 

not require any ski boots. Special practice 

slopes and lifts create a “growing slope”, 

providing the ideal conditions to accustom

This flat winter hiking route at the foot of the Wilder 

Kaiser leads you in parallel to the Kaiserloipe 

cross-country ski trail, which is true to its name, and 

around the golf course – perfect for families with 

sledges. Start in the village and cross the road heading 

north at the Ellmau central car park and you’re at the 

hike starting point, which is a popular golf green in 

the summer. Turn right and the route leads you on a 

comfortable hike to the two farmhouses near the Hausbach 

stream. Stroll along the edge of the forest on the 

groomed winter hiking trail back to the KaiserBad and, 

from there, towards Auwald to reach the beautiful old 

farmhouse standing alone in the meadow. Once past 

that, it’s back towards the village. 

You can take a short break or enjoy the fantastic views of 

Ellmau village or the Kaisergebirge mountain range on 

one of the many benches along the winter hiking trail. 

What to look out for along the way: 

A You can make for any of the numerous 

sunny benches on the circular walk: they all 

offer magnificent views. 

B If any members of your party are 

cross-country skiers, they can accompany you 

for some of the route before rejoining you for 

a bite to eat.

This route is perfect for everyone who 

prefers descending to ascending. Start at 

the Hartkaiserbahn valley station and take 

an easy gondola ride up to 1,550 metres. 

Up there, a small circular trail leads you 

through the forest to the photo point with 

a panorama frame with the Wilder Kaiser 

in the background. Near the Kaiserexpress 

chairlift, the groomed winter hiking trail 

takes you towards the valley and soon 

brings you to the next station, the Jägerhütte 

mountain inn. It continues on to the 

quaint Rübezahl-Alm mountain hut. A 

detour to the Berggasthof Hochschwendt 

mountain inn, known for its cake and Tirolean 

specialities, is a must. Then continue 

on the leisurely path towards the valley, past 

the “Der Bergdoktor” house.

Take an easy chairlift ride from the Astbergbahn 

chairlift valley station in Going up to the 

mountain station. Keep right when alighting 

and follow the winter hiking trail into the

parlour. Take the road through the Kirchbichl 

district into the centre of Ellmau. You can take 

this winter hiking trail in reverse and uphill if 

you want a more sporting challenge. Follow 

the road in Ellmau, keeping the church on 

your left. Tip: If the roads are covered with 

enough snow, take your sledge and zip down 

the toboggan run back to Ellmau or Going.

This romantic winter trail takes you to the 

foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountains to 

the unique observation point at the Wochenbrunner 

Alm mountain hut. Take the 

footbridge at the Sporthotel (Ellmau East). 

The Wochenbrunnweg now crosses the golf 

course along the Hausbach stream. Pass the 

farmhouses and continue on through the 

snowy winter forest up to the mountain hut. 

You will comfortably reach your destination 

in around 1.5 hours. The rustic Wochenbrunner 

Alm mountain hut at 1,085 metres 

boasts both a stunning panoramic view from 

the sun terrace and a small wildlife park 

with stags, deer and mountain goats. Tired 

hikers can reward themselves with a hearty 

platter of Tirolean cold cuts and bread or 

even a gourmet meal. Refreshed and ready, 

your path takes you back into the valley.

This hike enables you to discover some of the most 

beautiful places around Going. 

Starting at the Going Tourist Information Office, follow 

the Dorfstrasse road towards the Hauptstrasse main 

road. Turn left into the underpass and follow the Rettweg 

road. At the Blattlkapelle chapel, turn right and follow 

the road, entering the winter hiking trail on the right. 

Now follow the winter hiking trail through the snowy 

fields beside the forests. When you reach the plateau, you 

can bask in the warm rays of the sun and marvel at the 

spectacular view of Going from this prized location in 

close proximity to the Kaiser Mountains. Continue to the 

farming hamlet of Schwendterdörfl with its traditional 

farms and follow the trail through the fields blanketed 

in snow until you reach the Brennhütte mountain hut. 

Here, you can take a well-deserved break and enjoy a 

hearty platter of Tirolean cold cuts and bread, washed 

down with a warming, homemade Jägertee. After leaving 

the Brennhütte, walk the final part of the route until you 

reach the start of the winter hiking trail and follow the 

same path back to the tourist information office.

This tour begins at Going Parish Church and 

follows the Söllnerweg road out of the village 

to the east until it leads into a footpath. On 

the way, you will pass Gabelhof and other 

farms until you reach the crossroads. Head 

in the direction of the Hollenauer Kreuz 

mountain hut. Walk through the forest, 

taking a break on the bench at the wooden 

hut alongside the small Plattensee lake if you 

wish. Keep following the signposts in the 

direction of the Hollenauer Kreuz. On reaching

The Römerhof winter hike is a gentle circular 

loop through the snow-covered winter forest. 

Starting at the Going bathing lake in the district 

of Aschau, walk along the Aschauerweg 

road until you reach the Wagnerbauer farmhouse 

above the bathing lake. The ell-trodden 

winter hiking trail starts here. It runs across 

the countryside through an area of moorland 

blanketed in snow, which offers views of the 

Kitzbüheler Horn mountain. After around 

45 minutes, you will reach the Römerhof inn, 

which – with its rural charm and location 

on a plateau – is an inviting place to stop 

for something to eat. Return along the same 

route until you reach the Wagnerbauer farmhouse 

again. Then turn left at the crossroads

hut and continue in the direction of the bathing

During this winter hike, you remain close to 

the Wilder Kaiser mountain range. Starting at 

the Going Tourist Information Office, follow 

the Dorfstrasse road to the underpass at the 

Raiffeisen Bank and head along the Pramaweg 

for a short while until you reach the Landhaus 

Jägerhof lodge. It is here that the winter hiking 

trail branches off right from the road. The 

route runs parallel to the cross-country skiing 

trail and passes the bathing lake car park before 

taking you to the Koasastadl refreshment 

stop. After a break, cross a snowy field and 

continue in the direction of the Kaiser Mountains 

until you reach the little-used road. Follow 

the Aschauerweg road towards Going and 

Stanglwirt. At Stanglwirt, take the pedestrian 

underpass and walk on the footpath through 

the forest along the Going Hausbach stream,

of Lake Hintersteiner See and don’t forget 

to take a look down into the gorge from the 

bridge – you won’t be disappointed! Now

natural hiking route. From here, walk along 

the romantic Rehbachklamm gorge to the

popular place for tobogganing thanks to its 

natural toboggan runs. More than 12 km of 

toboggan routes divided into four toboggan 

runs, some of which may be covered in 

artificial snow, ensure you can truly get up to 

speed. Toboggan fans can really get into the 

swing of things in the Wilder Kaiser mountains 

– on romantic runs on forest paths like 

the Tannbichl run in Going, or the moderately 

challenging Astberg run towards Ellmau 

and Going. Little scenes are set up along the 

Hexenritt run in Söll to surprise you along 

the way and the Söll Mondrodelbahn moonlight 

toboggan run is ideal for families as it is 

8 metres wide and boasts 4 discovery points.

The starting point for an uphill hike with 

your toboggan is at the Ellmau Parish 

Church. From there, follow the road towards 

the Brenner Alm mountain hut until 

you come to Hausberg mountain. The easier 

option is to catch the Astbergbahn chairlift 

or take a taxi up the mountain. One at the 

top, you can grab a bite in one of the huts in 

the area and then zoom down the fast, 4.5 

kilometre toboggan run. 

A fork in the run about two-thirds of the 

way down gives you the choice between 

going right towards Going and the Astbergbahn 

chairlift valley station, or left to 

the Hotel der Bär in Ellmau. Hop on your 

toboggan and enjoy an exhilarating winter 

day in snow-covered nature – day or night, 

fun is always guaranteed!

The Tannbichl natural toboggan run is a 

true hidden gem in the Wilder Kaiser region. 

After parking your car in the Tannbichl 

car park in the Going district of Prama, 

walk through the forest in the direction of 

the Wilder Kaiser mountain range until the 

pink Tannbichlkapelle chapel appears. This 

building is a mountaineers’ chapel from 

the 19th century which has been lovingly 

renovated and invites you to stop to say a 

short prayer. The trail now leads you into a 

clearing, where after taking a breather, 

you can have fun as you speed through the 

winter forest along the almost 2 kilometre 

toboggan run.

The Mondrodelbahn or Moonlight Toboggan 

Run is only open and lit in the evening 

from Wednesday to Saturday between 6:30 

p.m. and 10:30 p.m. (lifts operate until 9:30 

p.m.). Ascend the mountain using the comfortable 

Hochsöll cable car. The toboggan 

run begins just beneath the Alpengasthof 

Hochsöll inn. As you go past the Stöcklalm 

mountain hut, the over 8 metre wide track 

offers plenty of opportunities for overtaking 

and only has a few bends. There are three 

discovery points along the run about the 

different phases of the moon, the night sky 

and the North Star. Families in particular 

can enjoy safe sledging fun on the easy 4 

kilometre toboggan run. Despite its name, 

the snow-covered run is well lit and does 

not depend on the light of the moon alone.

This second toboggan run on the 

Hohe Salve mountain starts just beneath the 

Alpengasthof Hochsöll inn. It follows 

a fantastic course through the forest and 

truly lives up to its name. You need a bit of 

courage to hurtle down the fast-paced route 

and lean properly into the bends. The 3.8 

kilometre Hexenritt or Witches’ Ride finishes 

at the Söll cable car valley station. Some 

witchcraft along the route provides a few 

surprises. The toboggan run is equipped 

with a permanent snow-making system. 

From Wednesday to Saturday, you can take 

the cable car to the start of the course until 

9:30 p.m. And anyone who wants to spend 

a bit longer in a mountain hut at the top has 

until 1:00 a.m. to safely descend the mountain 

under the floodlights. So give your 

sledge a push start, jump on and off you go!

It’s as if the gentle hills of the Söllandl valley 

at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser region were 

made for cross-country skiing. Beginners 

and advanced skiers have plenty of routes to 

explore on the more than 60 kilometres of 

perfectly prepared trails on the sun-drenched 

plains between the four villages of the Kaiser 

region – Going, Ellmau, Scheffau and Söll. 

Whether you are looking to follow the classic 

technique and slide through the winter landscape 

or take on the more fast-paced skating 

technique, the interconnected trails in the 

four villages mean that cross-country skiing 

in the valleys of the Wilder Kaiser region 

virtually knows no bounds. What’s more, the 

famous mountain range provides a spectacular 

backdrop to all the tracks. And once 

you’ve gained momentum, you’ll find your 

skis going at good speed in the valley!

hikers and bathers throughout the entire 

Wilder Kaiser region. From the mid-May to 

the end of October, this provides access to

Climbing 

With its numerous peaks and different rock 

formations, from turrets to chimneys, ridges 

and smooth, steep rock walls, the Wilder 

Kaiser mountain range offers countless opportunities 

for everyone to experience rocks 

close up. In addition to historic Alpine routes, 

climbers can practise their sport to their hearts’ 

content at five climbing gardens. Several via 

ferratas complete the range of mountaineering 

activities available in the Wilder Kaiser region.

adventure worlds 

Discover nature’s playful side in the six 

mountain adventure worlds in the Wilder 

Kaiser region. Ellmi’s Zauberwelt (magic 

world), KaiserWelt leisure park Scheffau, 

Hexenwasser theme park Söll, Hohe Salve 

mountain, Alpinolino and Filzalmsee lake – 

they’re all grouped around one of the most 

beautiful panoramic mountains in Tirol. 

The mountain adventure worlds are open 

from May to October (Ellmi’s Zauberwelt 

up to November), accessible on foot or by 

cable car and linked by panoramic trails. 

"Der Bergdoktor" 

(The Mountain Doctor) 

Currently the most successful German 

prime time TV series, “Der Bergdoktor” 

(The Mountain Doctor) has been filmed in 

the Wilder Kaiser region since 2007. You can 

see the series’ most beautiful filming locations. 

Visit the village square in Going, the 

Gasthof Wilder Kaiser inn and the practice 

on the Ellmau film hike or take a peek at the 

Gruber family’s mountain farmhouse on a 

tractor ride in Söll. Meet the leading actor 

Hans Sigl and his colleagues in person during 

one of the three Mountain Doctor fan weeks.
