Welcome to the second issue of our Quarterly magazine. Since I wrote the foreword to my first ‚Quarterly‘ a few 

weeks ago, the unimaginable has happened: we have war in Europe again. Following the pictures and reports from 

Ukraine makes us all concerned and sad. In addition to the economic consequences we have drawn since the beginning 

of the war, we as a company are trying to support aid organisations and offer refugees from Ukraine a professional 

perspective. We all hope that this terrible war will end soon. 

In my first few weeks at Bürklin Elektronik I have had many interesting discussions with customers and suppliers 

and also received a great response to the first 2022 issue of the magazine three months ago (14.02.2022). I would 

like to thank you very much for this. 

We at Bürklin Elektronik are working flat out to continuously develop both the customer and supplier experience. 

A competent range of products from renowned and innovative manufacturers, available the same day from our 

warehouse in Munich is the core of our performance promise to our customers in Germany, Europe and worldwide. 

In the next few months we will go live with our new online shop - another important milestone in the long successful 

history of Bürklin Elektronik. Caren (head of our e-commerce team) already offers a small foretaste of our 

new shop in this issue. The new online shop will complete our transformation from the first and leading catalogue 

distributor in Germany to a European/international digital distributor based in Munich. 

In addition to the article about our new online shop, we have compiled numerous interesting topics for you.

What used to take place 

in the Bürklin store in a 

dialog between customer

in the digital age often 

reduced to customer´s 

just entering a few search

to make their own 

product selection in the

success.

COOPERATION 

AT EYE LEVEL FOR 

OVER 30 YEARS 

The many satisfied customers have 

remained loyal to BMV for decades 

and swear by the flexible and committed 

service as well as the high 

quality required of an ISO 9001 certified 

manufacturing company. 

Also due to the support through 

Bürklin Elektronik, BMV was able

bottlenecks and component availability

BMV supplies customers from a

Due to steadily increasing demand,

SMD production in recent years. 

After the PCBs have been assembled 

with the modern automatic assembly 

machines, they are gently soldered 

in a vapor phase. This is followed 

by a final inspection using an AOI 

system to ensure consistent and 

flawless quality. 

At the customer‘s request, flux 

residues and other impurities can be 

removed from the circuit boards in a 

cleaning machine specially provided 

for this purpose.

SMD assembly, 

fast and flexible 

Expert assembly 

and wiring 

BMV Elektronik Fertigung GmbH 

was founded 33 years ago as a 

small medium-sized company in 

Martinsried near Munich. 

In the course of time, SMD and THT 

PCB assembly in pure and mixed 

form has been added to the former 

core competences of assembling 

THT PCBs, mounting and wiring 

assemblies. Another focus is the 

manufacture of cables. 

From the assembly of individual 

components to complete systems 

and control cabinets, BMV Elektronik 

Fertigung GmbH manufactures in 

small and medium quantities. On 

request, it tests assemblies according 

to customer specifications 

and creates the corresponding test 

protocols, which are both supplied 

and archived. 

Of course, the service also includes 

the procurement of components with 

special attention to speed, availability 

and the best possible prices. 

To ensure medium- and long-term 

supply security, the company offers 

agreed stock purchases of components 

and blanket orders. 

In order to meet the associated 

demands, it is essential to work 

together with reliable partners. 

From the very beginning, Bürklin 

Elektronik has supplied a very large 

proportion of components from a 

wide range of areas. These include 

measurement technology and tools, 

a wide range of active and passive 

components, cables and electromechanical 

components. 

The expert advice in the service 

department is always helpful at BMV, 

as is the reliably fast quotation system. 

If the standard delivery on the 

next working day is not sufficient, 

the local Bürklin Elektronik delivery 

service by courier is available for 

such unexpected situations. 

Cooperation at eye level is cultivated 

in the BMV production team just as 

it is with the suppliers. The focus is

TDK 

TVS DIODES OFFER HIGHLY 

RELIABLE AND COMPLETE ESD 

PROTECTION SOLUTIONS FOR 

USB TM TYPE-C ® CONNECTORS 

Except for the four GND 

(ground) pins, ESD protection 

is needed on 20 pins. 

This protection is achieved 

by connecting small ESD 

protection TVS diodes from 

the pin to GND. If an ESD 

event occurs, these will redirect 

the transient current 

to GND. TDK TVS diodes 

are designed with a snapback 

feature with extremely 

low clamping voltage 

characteristics due to their 

“thyristor structure”. This 

feature helps to guarantee 

the reliable limitation of 

over-voltage. 

Pins are divided into three 

different functional groups 

based on pin functionalities, 

and three different 

TVS components have been 

developed accordingly. This 

ensures efficient and suitable 

protection, as shown 

in the following overview. 

The USB Type-C ® connector 

is the most common 

interface for computers, 

tablets and smartphones. 

It supports high-speed 

data transfer as well as 

fast charging of peripheral 

devices. Like other 

interfaces, USB TM Type-C ® 

connectors are frequently 

exposed to Electro Static 

Discharges (ESD), which 

may cause damage to the 

sensitive electronics of 

the connected devices. 

Therefore, connector pins 

must be properly protected 

against ESD. The layout 

and performance of USB 

Type-C ® connectors require 

specific ESD protection. 

TDK has developed Transient 

Voltage Suppressor 

(TVS) diodes, which are 

specifically designed to 

protect USB Type-C ® 

connectors. The TDK TVS 

portfolio provides the ideal 

solutions for the highspeed 

data pins up to 40 

Gbps using the fast USB TM 

4 40G protocol, as well as 

the Thunderbolt protocol. 

Furthermore, TDK TVS 

diodes support fast device 

charging via power delivery 

protocol and the respective 

pins. 

One of the handy features 

of the USB Type-C ® 

connector is its flippabiliy 

with no up or down orientation, 

which has been 

achieved by mirroring the 

pins on both sides of the 

connector. Figure 1 shows 

all 24 pins densely arranged 

without leaving 

much space for protection 

diodes. Additionally, 

the best practice for ESD 

protection is to place 

an ESD component as 

close as possible to the 

connector at risk of being 

exposed to the source of 

the transient event. Due 

to their miniaturized size, 

TDK TVS diodes fit perfectly 

into the application. TDK 

TVS diodes offer robust 

protection with minimal 

space consumption. All 

types comply with the IEC 

61000-4-2 system-level 

ESD standard. 

USB Type-C ® pin-out 

For super-speed Tx/Rx high 

data-rate pins, TDK offers 

ULC TVS diodes with low 

reverse working voltage 

(±3.3 V) and ultra-low 

capacitance. ULC TVS 

diodes have been tested 

and certified by an independent 

certification lab for 

applications with USB TM 4 

40 Gbps data rates and 

Thunderbolt TM signals. Test 

results show that TDK TVS 

protection diodes do not 

impair the communication 

signal on the lines. 

For the protection of the 

differential signal D+/Dpins, 

TDK offers TVS diodes 

with a working voltage of 

±5.5 V that are perfectly 

suited to USB 2 signal 

levels and that have a low 

parasitic capacitance. 

For VBUS power pins and 

neighboring CC (Configuration 

Channel) and SBU 

(Sideband Use) pins, TDK 

TVS diodes support reverse 

working voltages up to ±20 

V and fast charging functionality 

with a USB PD 

(USB Power Delivery) of up 

to 100 W with 5 A/20 V.

HEAT SHRINK TUBING: 

WITH EXPERTISE THROUGH 

THICK AND THIN 

From coloured and transparent heat shrink with or without adhesive to heat shrinkable moulded parts: 

HellermannTyton, the cable management specialist, offers a comprehensive range of heat shrink products 

in a variety of styles and sizes that meet the highest standards. 

Heat shrink tubing is used when assembling cable sets. 

For example, to insulate the wires or cables, to provide 

additional mechanical protection or to mark them. There 

are five basic parameters that are decisive for the success 

of a heat shrink application: 

1. THE WALL THICKNESS 

In general, a distinction is made between thin-, medium- 

and thick-walled shrink tubing. The variants with an 

inner layer of adhesive are often referred to as doublewalled. 

The material thickness should be stated in mm 

after complete shrinkage. 

„Nominal“ means dimensions without any tolerances. 

2. THE DIAMETER 

For thin-walled heat shrink tubing, the diameter is 

usually given in inches; 25.4 mm equals 1 inch. 

3. THE RATE OF SHRINKAGE 

The shrink ratio indicates how much the product 

shrinks, i.e. the supplied expanded diameter in relation 

to the diameter after shrinking. The shrink ratio varies 

from 2:1 to 6:1. The higher the ratio, the greater the range 

of applications that the tubing can cover. As a result, 

fewer shrink tubing sizes are usually needed. 

4. THE LENGTH CHANGE 

Heat shrinkable tubing not only shrinks in diameter, 

but also in length. The so-called longitudinal shrinkage 

is given as a percentage. 

5. THE RIGHT SIZE 

Select the tubing size so that a minimum shrinkage of 

20 % and a maximum of 80 % is possible.

HOT TIPS FOR PERFECT HEAT SHRINKING 

Start the shrinking process in the middle of the tube. 

From there, move outwards to one end and then again 

from the middle to the other end. This way you avoid 

trapping air under the tubing. 

Shrink tubing also shrinks in the longitudinal direction, 

i.e. it becomes shorter overall when shrunk. You should 

take this shrinkage rate into account when cutting 

sections. 

If the object to be wrapped is heat conductive, make 

sure to preheat the object to avoid “cold spots“. This 

will ensure a tight and smooth fit. 

When cutting heat shrink tubing to the desired length, 

take special care to cut the ends smoothly. Poorly cut 

and irregular ends can cause heat shrink tubing to tear 

during shrinking. 

When selecting the tubing size, it is important to follow 

the 80:20 rule. Select the size so that it can shrink by at 

least 20% and at most 80%.

FASTER RESULTS WITH THE CORDLESS ALL-ROUNDER 

The CHG900 is a gas hot air blower designed for shrink 

applications where no power source is available or full 

mobility is desired. It is also suitable for soft soldering, 

plastic moulding or defrosting. 

The handy tool generates instant, adjustable heat from 

190 °C up to 900 °C and produces no open flame. It provides 

1.5 hours of operation per cartridge, even at low 

air temperatures around -8 °C. Only after 60 minutes of 

continuous operation is a short rest period of 15 minutes 

required to allow the internal components to cool 

down and avoid damage. 

No battery-powered hot air tool offers this much autonomy 

for heat shrinking. Its operating time depends 

on the number of shrinking processes, the shrinking 

temperature and the shrinking time. 

But with a full gas cartridge, the CHG900 works reliably 

for about 90 minutes regardless of the number, temperature 

and duration of the shrinkages. The charging 

time of a battery-powered device usually takes longer 

than the cooling time of the CHG900. 

LIGHT AND HANDY 

The CHG900 weighs only 555 g including a full P445 gas 

cartridge. This makes it one of the lightest hot air guns 

on the market. The gas cartridges, as well as critical 

spare parts such as the piezo ignition and the gas nozzle, 

can be replaced quickly and without additional tools. 

The empty cartridges are also fully recyclable. 

The CHG900 can be placed securely in a stable position 

for horizontal or vertical heat flows. The integrated 

stand frees up both hands for maximum control when

AT HOME 

Electric vehicles are powered by lithium-ion battery packs. Although they are used in billions of applications 

worldwide from cars to the latest cell phones, they are sensitive constructions. However, if care is taken during 

the charging process the battery life and safety can be significantly increased. 

If you are thinking about buying an electric vehicle, it 

makes sense to consider at an early stage how this vehicle 

should be supplied with energy. In the vast majority 

of cases this will involve charging at home. That is why 

we want to limit ourselves to this point in this article. 

What do we need to look out for? 

DURATION OF THE CHARGING PROCESS 

The calculation for the loading time is done quickly. Take 

the battery capacity of a vehicle in kWh and divide it by 

the power (kW) of the charging station. This gives you 

the number of hours for a full charge. 

THE WEAKEST LINK DETERMINES THE PACE 

During the charging process always keep in mind that 

it consists of the mains supply, the charging station, 

the charging cable and the charger, just like a chain. 

The weakest link of such a chain always determines the 

maximum charging power. Thus, if the charger only has 

a capacity of 6.6 kW, it does not be of any help to „pump“ 

some current into the batteries with a 22 kW charging 

station. 

FAST CHARGING SHORTENS SERVICE LIFE 

Fast charging harms every lithium-ion battery. Charging 

and discharging lithiumion cells can lead to lithium 

plating. Lithium ions are deposited on the anode surface 

instead of nesting between the layers of graphite. This 

effect leads to significant losses in performance, service 

life and safety. In extreme cases, lithium plating can 

even lead to a short circuit or since metallic lithium is 

highly flammable, to a fire. 

CHARGING ON 1-PHASE MAINS 

The smallest available wall charging stations are 

connected to the 230 V/16 A household mains supply. 

These wall charging stations can only be used for 

single-phase charging up to about 3.6 kW. This is only 

practical in a few cases. For example, vehicles with low 

battery capacity for short distances or plug-in hybrids 

that do not rely exclusively on the electric motor. 

CHARGING ON 3-PHASE MAINS 

A large number of wall charging stations for the private 

sector are connected to 400 V/16 A three-phase current 

(11 kW max. charging capacity). Practically every household 

offers this possibility without additional changes to 

the power supply system. This already reduces the 

charging times by a factor of 3. The simple design of 

these wall charging stations is particularly advantageous, 

as in addition to 3-phase charging, the standard 

on-board chargers can also be operated at 230 V (max. 

3.6 kW) on one phase without further fusing. 

If you need more power, you have to upgrade the power 

supply. For example, to a stronger wall charging station 

with 400 V/32 A (22 kW) or 400 V/63 A (44 kW). However, 

you are dependent on the help of a specialist for this. It 

is also imperative to clarify the technical (existing electrical 

load) and legal (tenants, owners) feasibility. In return, 

such powerful chargers offer significantly shorter 

charging times. Again, the performance of the built-in 

on-board charger determines the charging capacity that 

can ultimately be achieved. 

INTELLIGENT CHARGING MANAGEMENT 

Performance is one thing. It is at least as important to 

use this power intelligently and safely. High-performance 

electronics are responsible for this. The charging 

management of the wall charging station communicates 

with the vehicle‘s Battery Management System (BMS). 

BMS are responsible for controlling and monitoring the 

charging and discharging process. Their main task is to 

ensure that each individual cell neither during charging 

nor discharging falls below nor exceeds a State of 

Charge (SoC) limit value defined for the application. The 

SoC value describes the remaining available capacity of 

a battery in relation to its nominal value. 

ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC) 

Today, high-performance electronics always means 

high-clocked circuits. And these fast circuits always 

carry the risk of excessive emissions of electromagnetic 

interference signals, which must be reduced. This problem 

can be overcome with EMC filters with high attenuation 

and a clever circuit board layout - in the 1-phase 

range usually even with discrete components.

The IsoMOV Hybrid Protector Series 

is an upgrade to nearly any MOV

The IsoMOV device‘s unique and
