Celbridge Mill 1850
The first reference to a mill in
Celbridge was a corn and tuck mill in
1217. The building we see today was
constructed in 1805 and was closed
in 1982. Over the years the mill has
been a source of employment and
has changed use from flour, flax,
textiles to a paper mill. Army clothing worn by Napolean’s
army was made here at the beginning of the 19th century.
Brown wrapping paper and postcards were made from peat
from local bogs at the start of the 20th century. The
building was renovated in 1985 to accommodate alternative
use and is now owned by Celbridge Community Council.
