From the North Sea to the South Pole and across
the English Channel up the Thames to London
Matthias Postel wurde 1973 an der deutschen Nordseeküste geboren. Seine
Leidenschaft für die Tontechnik entwickelte sich wie bei vielen Toningenieuren
– er war ambitionierter Musiker. Fasziniert von den technischen Bearbeitungsmöglichkeiten
fand sich Matthias bald hinter dem Mischpult, um
kleinere Demoproduktionen und Live-Konzerte zu betreuen, oftmals aber
auch in doppelter Funktion, als Musiker und Techniker.
Als es um die Frage der Berufswahl ging war bereits klar, dass er sein Geld
mit Tontechnik verdienen wollte. Als praxisorientiertes Ausbildungsinstitut
in diesem Bereich, war die SAE erste Wahl. Matthias belegte 1994 den Diplomkurs
an der SAE in Hamburg. Zusätzlich zur Ausbildung nutzte er viele
Gelegenheiten, Praxiserfahrung außerhalb der Schule zu sammeln, z.B. als
Live-Sound Assistent bei „Selig“, „The Poozies“ und „Long John Baldry“.
1996 verließ Matthias zunächst die Schule und begann ein Praktikum im
Synchronbereich. Er arbeitete an den deutschen Fassungen der Zeichentrick-Serien
„Action Man” und „Nadine Stern der Seine” mit. Im Anschluss an
diesen Job arbeitete er als freiberuflicher Mitarbeiter für zwei Hamburger
Tonstudios die sich auf Rundfunkwerbung, Multimedia-Sprachaufnahmen
und Post Production sowie Beschallung von Firmenveranstaltungen spezialisiert
hatten. Die hochrangigsten Meriten verdiente er sich unter anderem
durch bundesweite Rundfunkkampagnen für RTL.
Zu den schon vorhandenen Jobs gesellte sich noch ein weiterer. Matthias
wurde Supervisor an der SAE Hamburg. Diese Tätigkeit ergänzte die Jobs in
den Studios. Auf diese Weise war er in der Lage, den Studenten seine Erfahrungen
aus dem Produktionsalltag zu vermitteln.
Seine ersten Unterrichtseinheiten hielt Matthias Ende 1997, was er im darauf
folgenden Jahr noch deutlich ausbauen konnte. Zusätzlich arbeitete er
in der Schulverwaltung der SAE Hamburg, wo er schon bald zum stellvertretenden
Schulleiter aufstieg.
Matthias Postel was born on the North Sea coast in 1973. His passion for
sound technology developed as it has for so many audio engineers - he was
an ambitious musician. Fascinated by the technical processing possibilities,
Matthias soon found himself behind the mixer, producing small demos and
mixing live concerts - often in the double role as technician and musician.
When it came time to choose a career, it was already clear - he wanted to
earn his living in audio engineering. SAE was his first choice as a practically
oriented training institute in this field. Matthias attended a diploma course
at SAE Hamburg in 1994. In addition to his studies, he took advantage of
many opportunities to gain experience outside of the school - for example,
as a live-sound assistant for „Selig“, „The Poozies“ and „Long John Baldry“.
In 1996, Matthias left the school for a time and started an apprenticeship in
the area of synchronization. He worked on the German version of the animated
series “Action Man“ and “Nadine Stern der Seine“. After those jobs, he
worked freelance for two Hamburg recording studios specialized in Radio
advertising, multi-media voice recording and post-production as well as
providing sound systems for company events. He earned his highest merits
through nationwide radio campaigns for RTL, among other things.
Another task was then added to his existing activities: Matthias became a Supervisor
at SAE Hamburg. This complemented his jobs in the studios. He was
thus able to share his day-to-day production experiences with the students.
Matthias taught his first courses at the end of 1997, which he was able to expand
significantly the following year. He also worked in the administration
of SAE Hamburg, where he was soon promoted to assistant principal.
The logical consequence of his promotion was the position of principal. That
it turned out to be a position in Auckland, New Zealand, made it all the more
exciting. Matthias accepted the challenge and in March 2000, he found himself
on the other side of the world between Australia and the South Pole.
