In this article we will show that Thure von Uexkülls conception of
biosemiotics is still up to date and highly relevant in practice. A
therapeutical concept will be described, understanding pain in terms of
a self-alientation of the human body.
The “body-in-its-environment” (“Körper-in-seiner-Umwelt”) is an
environmental-dialectical idea. It demonstrates the mediation between
the objectiveness of the corpus and the subjectiveness of the own
body. In terms of biosemiotics it is possible to demonstrate the
reciprocal mediation of the body-in-its-environment. In such a way
pathological and traumatic progressions can be described as a
separation of these two aspects of physicalness. This means a kind of
self-diremption and self-alienation.
Many pain-related diseases indicate regions of the body as
unintegrated. There is a split-up between a person’s body and his
corpus. Pain is understood as falseregulation. It indicates an alienation.
To focus only on the objective anatomy often is bound to miss the
problem. The vital anatomy of the muscles in function rather demands
a therapeutical concept, that integrates the concept of dialectics and
semiotics. Within the scope of the dialectical neuromuscular trauma
therapy / myoreflextherapy, the traumatic process can change from his
passive reenactment to an active, self-reflexive recapitulation and
thereby to a self-healing process.
