315-445-2360 | Adults and Seniors Program JCC’s senior kosher dinners starting up again June 26 The JCC of Syracuse is a great place for seniors to enjoy a hot, nutritious and well-balanced kosher meal on Monday evenings all summer long. The JCC’s Dr. Morton and Mrs. Libby Maloff Summer Senior Dinners will kick off on June 26. The weekly dinners will be held on Mondays at 5 p.m. A variety of live entertainment will be included each week as part of the dinner program. This JCC summertime tradition will run through August 21. The JCC’s summer dinners, open to seniors age 60 and older, are offered for a suggested contribution of $5 per person. Registration is required by the Wednesday before each dinner by calling 315-445-2360. “We’re delighted to get our senior dinner program going again this summer,” said Marci Erlebacher, JCC of Syracuse executive director. “It offers seniors a very warm and inviting social atmosphere to enjoy a delicious kosher meal in the company of friends.” The JCC’s weekly summer dinners are an additional component to its successful Bobbi Epstein Lewis Senior Adult Dining Program. The program’s weekday senior lunches will continue at noon Tuesdays through Fridays during those weeks the summer dinners are held. The lunch program offers seniors age 60 and over a nutritious and well-balanced kosher meal for a $4.00 suggested contribution. The JCC Senior Adult Dining Program is the only senior nutrition program available outside of New York City serving kosher meals five days per week. The program is funded in part by the Onondaga County Department of Aging Senior dinner volunteers needed Volunteers are sought to help serve Monday evening senior kosher dinners at the JCC starting on June 26. Volunteers age 13 and older are welcome and should be available starting at 4:45 p.m. Flexible weeks are available. Students seeking to fulfill community service requirements will receive confirmation of volunteer hours served. Helping east-area seniors live independently Do you or someone you know have questions about Social Security benefits, SNAP (food stamps), Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits, transportation or other services? The JCC’s Neighborhood Advisor can help seniors in the DeWitt, Fayetteville and Manlius areas with outreach, information, referrals and benefit applications. Sharon Kieffer, the JCC’s Neighborhood Advisor, assists seniors age 60 and older by providing information about programs available in the community and by helping to obtain necessary services so that they can remain living independently in their homes. There is no cost for this service, however donations Sharon Kieffer, the JCC’s Neighborhood Advisor are accepted and appreciated. Kieffer is generally available most weekday mornings for phone consultations and meetings at the JCC, at seniors’ homes or in public places such as local libraries. Kieffer has many years of experience providing case management services in the healthcare and long-term care fields. The Neighborhood Advisor program is part of the Onondaga County Department of Adult & Long Term Care Services. Senior Scams and Identity Fraud presentation June 30 The JCC will host a Senior Scams and Identity Fraud presentation on Friday, June 30 as part of its senior kosher lunch. Lunch will be served at noon and the presentation will begin at approximately 12:20 p.m. There is a $4.00 suggested contribution for the lunch for seniors age 60 and older. Anyone wishing to attend the presentation only at 12:20 p.m. is welcome to do so at no cost. The presentation will provide practical tips on identifying and dealing with scams and identity fraud schemes targeting seniors. It will be given by a postal inspector with the Postal Customer Council Board of the United States Postal Service.
