Wernigerode has a distinguished choral tradition
but was little-known throughout the international choir community. In order
to boost the popularity of the colorful city in the Harz region the organizers
of the event decided to name the festival after one of the most wellknown
German composers, Johannes Brahms. Meanwhile his name
is inseparably linked to Wernigerode, so that many people assume
that he had ties to this city. But this is not the case.
