Bluegrass Gem,
Mineral and Rock Show
The Bluegrass Gem & Mineral Club will have its show at
the Central Office’s gym of the Estill County Public Schools, 253
Main St., Irvine. Hours for the show are Fri., April 27, 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m., Sat., April 28, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sun., April 29, 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. Estill County students will visit the show on Fri.,
April 27 to learn about rocks, gems, and minerals. There will
be exhibits by rockhounds, information on agates, gems, rocks,
fossils, and minerals, demonstrations, vendor sales, and a black
light display of fluorescent material.
Local agate hunters plus vendors from many states have
registered to participate. They will have the following items for
the show: slabs and cabs for sale, demonstrate wire wrapping,
minerals, fossils, agate, rock and mineral items, jewelry, Kentucky
agate polished specimens, mineral specimens, flint stone
jewelry, silver jewelry, beads, African trade beads, and wire
wrapped items, crystals, meteorites, paint rock agate, Arizona
agate, facet rough, hand wrapped gemstones, gemstone created
jewelry, gem trees, wire wrapped pendants and earrings.

Pancake Breakfast
Start your day at the festival with a hearty breakfast!
The Estill County Chapter of the Masonic Lodge will
dish out an all you can eat pancake breakfast for a hungry
festival crowd at their lodge located at 221 Broadway &
Lilly Ave. on Sat., April 28 from 7 a.m. - 11 a.m. Pancakes,
sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, juice, milk, and coffee
will be served. The cost will be $5 for adults and $3.50
for children from 5 to 12 years old. Children 4 and under
eat free. 5-K participants will get a $1 discount. Carryout
will be available by calling 723-2188. Tickets may be purchased
from any lodge member or may be purchased at
the door.

Festival Parade
One of the Mountain Mushroom Festival crowd’s favorite
event is the parade. It will be Sat., April 28. “Happy
200th Birthday, City of Irvine” will be the theme. It will
begin at 1 p.m. with the line-up at 11:45 a.m. behind Estill
Springs School, 314 Main St., Irvine. Judging will begin
promptly at noon. The parade will proceed up Court
Street onto Broadway and end at Ravenna City Park.
Grand marshals will be former mayors of Irvine. Civic
organizations, churches, fire departments, and school
clubs are invited to participate in the parade by entering
antique vehicles, bands, marching units, and floats. The
entry fee for a float is $5 April 20 or before and $10 April
21-28. Floats will be judged on creativity, originality, and
beauty. Also 10 extra points will be given if mushrooms
are used on the float. Cash prizes will be given for the top
three winners of the floats. The prizes in the float category
are $150 for first prize, $100 for second prize, and $50 for
third prize.
Parade participants will not be allowed to toss candy
or other objects to the crowd in the interest of safety of
the community. Candy can be handed out.Parade applications
and guidelines are available in Irvine City Hall or

Race Day Activities:
Race Day Registration/Check-In: 7:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. at
corner of Broadway & Estill Ave., Irvine.
Race starting time: 9 a.m. Awards will be given following
the race at the finish line. Snacks and drinks will be served at the
finish line.
Entry Fee: $15 (April 26 or before) or $18 (April 27-28) Make
check payable to Mountain Mushroom Festival and return to Irvine
City Hall. Fee includes t-shirt. Check size on registration form.
Race Course:
The course starts at the Irvine School Apartments, 223
Broadway, (corner of Broadway and Lily Ave.). It continues on
Broadway, through the festival area to Court St., left on Court
St. to River Drive, left on River Drive, left on 8th St. in Ravenna,
and left on Broadway to the finish line at Estill Ave. Runners
start in front, followed by walkers. The race course is on the
website.
Race Staff:
The staff from John’s Run/Walk Shop in Lexington will be
supervising the race.
Assisting Organization: The Kiwanis Club of Irvine-Ravenna
will assist with the race.

13 and under, 14-16, 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-
49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+
