Microbial eVolution research grouP
MERG works strategically to improve our research by creating synergies
across the group and with external collaborators. The core of our research
area is microbial ecology and evolution. We address basic theoretical and
methodological questions for a broad group of microorganisms, and aim to
apply this knowledge to solve challenges within health, climate, environment,
energy and food production. Our research and teaching is inter-disciplinary
and aim at creating synergies across wide range of disciplines.
for 2012 MERG is anticipated to get a base funding of approximately
416.000 nOK for running cost from the department of Biology. This year
we will focus on upgrading the areas outside room 4212 as a “MERG
market”. We will continue with champagne celebrations and the jIppI party
the last friday in november. 40 000 is allocated travel support.

traVel suPPort
Support up to 3000 NOK for traveling to conferences,
courses and research stay abroad will be transerred to
MERG participants based on JIPPI registration at the
end of the year.
Merg Maked Place
The area outside room 4212 will be renovated and furnished
during 2012. The intention is to improve our visibility
at the department by displaying news, printed articles
and announcements. 30 000 NOK is allocated to
this work.
Microlab
The new labs have opened and needs 50 000 NOK for
simple equipment.
JiPPi celebration
In 2012 we will celebrate the MERG activity the last Friday
in November at a restaurant in Oslo. 30 000 NOK is
allocated to this event in the budget.
furniture
2012 is the last year we are paying for our office furniture.
We have each of the three last year spent about
140 000 NOK on new kitchen, desks, chairs and shelfs.
