East Troy residents petition to clear square of snow dumping: Activists in the village of East Troy are petitioning the municipality not to dump plowed snow in square in the center of the village. Some called the piles of snow there “Mt. Brown.” Gallery opens paper collage exhibit: The First Citizens Gallery in Whitewater opened an exhibit of paper collages created by M. Virginia Epps. Epps is a retired UW-Whitewater faculty member and has been able to work on art at her studio. Epps also serves as courtside announcer for the UW- Whitewater women’s volleyball team and a grant proposal reviewer for the WisconsinImprovement of Teacher Quality program. The exhibit continues through the end of December. Aurora calls ‘Good Neighbor Day’ a success: Aurora Lakeland Medical Center called its Good Neighbor Day drive a success. More than 30 volunteers participated and collected 420 pieces of clothing, 45 pounds of assorted medications, 44 eyeglasses and 28 stuffed animals. Lakeland was participating in the Aurora Health Care system’s statewide drive, which collected a total of more than 1,600 pounds of old medication, nearly 12,200 pieces of used clothing, more than 600 cell phones, nearly 430 computers, almost 600 teddy bears and stuffed animals and more than 1,400 personal care items and new clothing. Latin American author gives presentation at UW- Whitewater: One of Latin America’s most influential and celebrated authors Cristina Garcia, will give a lecture at 7 p.m. Monday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Young Auditorium. Garcia will present her newest novel, “A Handbook to Luck.” Garcia’s visit is part of the College of Letters and Sciences and Young Auditorium’s Community Reading Initiative. This lecture is free and open to the public. Old Fashioned Christmas celebration in downtown Sharon: The residents from the village of Sharon are holding an old fashioned Christmas celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in downtown Sharon at Veteran’s Park. The Christmas tree will be lit, there will be a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and local vendors and entertainment will be there. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever play is based on the popular book written by Barbara Robinson. It focuses on the Herdman family, the neighborhood terrors, who discover the true meaning of Christmas while participating in a church play about the birth of Jesus. East Troy readies for Santa Parade Train: The Santa Parade Train will make its way from the Elegant Farmer to the East Troy village square to light the tree there Saturday (Dec. 6). The train will leave the Elegant Farmer, located at 1545 Main St. in Mukwonago and will make brief stops along the way until it reaches the village square at 6:30 p.m. Festivities begin on the Village Square at 6 p.m. with a Christmas carol sing-along and a drawing and free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus will take place after the lighting. Friends of the Phoenix Park Bandshell announce caroling event: The Friends of the Phoenix Park Bandshell will hold the 2nd annual community caroling at 6 p.m., Saturday (Dec. 6) at the Phoenix Park Bandshell in Delavan.
