The institutions for destitutes remain, in general, isolated from everyday life with their ‘rigid routine’ and de-personalising and disabling effects on the inmates. An environment in which the inmates have nothing to do creates unwanted anxiety and fear in their minds about their future. Therefore, together with administering institutionalised care, it is essential to initiate efforts for de-institutionalisation and promotion of community living for the destitutes. 40
