EUBIA, <strong>European</strong> <strong>Biomass</strong> Industry Association, was <strong>establish</strong>ed in 1996<br />

as an International non-profi t association in Brussels, Belgium. It groups<br />

together market forces, technology providers, knowledge centres <strong>and</strong><br />

investors active in the fi eld of biomass.<br />

EUBIA is a full member of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP)<br />

<strong>establish</strong>ed at the G8+5C summit in Gleneagles (2005), concentrating its<br />

activities upon three strategic pillars: energy security, food security <strong>and</strong><br />

sustainable development.<br />

EUBIA is involved in various international cooperation agreements with the<br />

Russian Federation (Federal Agency of Science <strong>and</strong> Innovation-associated<br />

Promotion of Business), with P.R.China (China Association of Rural Energy<br />

<strong>and</strong> Industry), <strong>and</strong> with the USA (ACORE).<br />

Objectives <strong>and</strong> Activities<br />

EUBIA’s main objective is to promote the use of biomass by modern<br />

bioenergy technologies <strong>and</strong> increasing the competitiveness of the <strong>European</strong><br />

biomass industry.<br />

In particular, EUBIA is a direct member of the biomass industry in the EU.<br />

The activities of EUBIA aim to:<br />

• Identify sustainable <strong>and</strong> commercially viable bioenergy projects<br />

• Support the industries that are active in the bioenergy sector<br />

<strong>and</strong> promote their projects<br />

• Involve the bioenergy industry in EU-funded projects<br />

• Implement strategic studies in the bioenergy sector<br />

• Promote innovative technologies<br />

• Search of inventors <strong>and</strong> promotion of business<br />

• Promote international cooperation <strong>and</strong> exchange of technologies<br />

Ongoing Innovative Projects<br />

• Innovative pelletization technology for agro-forestry residues<br />

• Advanced large-scale torrefaction technology<br />

• Sweet sorghum biorefi nery<br />

• Small advanced power generators<br />

• Development of logistics for large scale supply<br />

• Development of biofertilizers production technology<br />

• Small hybrid city-cars<br />
