ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION
1974-7 Gott Discs / UK Rock Country 15,50 €
CD - Third Annual Pipe Dream / A Rock And Roll Alterna GOTTCD 013 USA
Often described as a more radio-friendly version of Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Allman Brothers, the Atlanta
Rhythm Section was one of many Southern Rock bands to hit the upper reaches of the charts during the
late \'70s. Hailing from the small town of Doraville, Georgia, the beginning of the Atlanta Rhythm Section
can be traced back to 1970. These two albums were originally released in 1974 and 1976 on the Polydor
Record label and now available for the first time as a 2 on 1 CD.
ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION
CD - Dog Days/ Red Tape
GOTTCD 024 USA
Due to the success of their first Atlanta Rhythm Section pairing, and because of exceptional demand for
these two recordings, Gott Discs are now re-releasing the band’s fourth & fifth albums. Recorded in 1975
and 1976 respectively, and originally on the Polydor record label, ‘Dog Days’ and ‘Red Tape’ are now
appearing for the first time as a 2 on 1 CD on Gottdiscs. ? ‘Dog Days’ was the band’s first true
masterpiece – an album that still stands as one of their best. The band were beginning to display a
growing array of musical styles and approaches very different to where the rest of ‘Southern Rock’ was
headed.? With ‘Red Tape’ – another early classic and a much in demand title from fans and public alike –
featured a harder rock approach with predominantly shorter pop-length songs.
First released in 1970 on Dawn Records, this British band presented an interesting jazzy/prog album, that
did not forget its rock roots. Great bass work and interesting covers of "Dear Prudence" and "Something."
This edition also contains two bonus tracks from a rare EP, making this CD the group's complete works.
Atlantis were formed in 1972 by vocalist Inga Rumpf, bassist Karl-Heinz Schott and French keyboard
player Jean Jacques Kravetz, all of whom had been in Frumpy, the German progressive/blues outfit. It
would appear that the band wanted to follow a more ''commercial hard rock" direction, and hence Atlantis
was born. Recruiting seasoned sesion drummer Curt Cress (Epsilon, Emergency, Orange Peel, etc) and ex-
Emergency/Armaggedon/Agitation Free guitarist Frank Diez, they released their self-titled debut album in
1972. Recorded and mixed in London, this album contained one of the best progressive tracks of the day,
the awesome "Living at the End of Time", immortalized on the double Vertigo 'Suck it and See"
compilation The band's second album, "It's Getting Better", released in 1973, saw future Guru Guru and
Touch guitarist, Dieter Bornschlegel and ex-Jeronimo drummer, Ringo Funk, replace Diez and Cress
respectively.
