BEEFEATERS
CD - DR SESSIONS
KMCD 5114 DK
Danmarks 60's legends Beefeaters their Denmark Radio recordings from 1967 to 1968. The title is "Troels'
Vanvittige Parkering" (=The Crazy (car-) Park of Troels). The recordings have been done by Denmarks
Radio in Frederikshavn and probably in Islev Cinema during 67-68. Denmark Radio doesn't not have the
mastertapes, so some old casettetapes were cleaned up. This is Beefeaters with long and short takes, full
of soul.
CD - BEEFEATERS / Meet You There
UMD 1596312 DK
Both albums by this great Danish band. The first album from 1967 is cool blues/garage/beat rock whilst
the second is a psychedelic blues gem from 1969, originally issued by Sonet. Blues giant Alexis Korner
appears on two of this album's six tracks and the whole package comes complete with original artwork and
band history/discography. An underrated act that supported Hendrix & the Pink Floyd !
CD - THE SECRET TAPES
KMCD 28104 DK
This is a gold-stroke. Tapes are from around 1968. They were recorded privateley by af friend, and the
sound is great due to the fact that it was reel-to reel and 2 mics: 1 at the soloist, another at the "group".
Tapes are carefully cleaned up, and sound is matrixed in a way so there is both depth and wide stereo,
plus the group plays superb.
BEES MAKE HONEY - (2CD)
1972-7 Acadia / UK
Rock Blues 17,90 €
CD - BACK ON TRACK - Anthology
ACAD 8053 UK
UK import. One of the pub rock bands from the 70's, along with bands like DR. FEELGOOD. Rounds up
studio sessions from 1972-1975 and a live disc from 1976. This anthology consists of a live CD recorded
at London's Nashville Rooms in December 1976 and a studio Cd featuring various different line ups of
Bees Make Honey. The live set features Barry Richardson and Mick Molloy joined by Rod Demmick on
guitar and drummer Paul Atkins. There are some nice sweet country rock type numbers like 'Tequila
Sunrise' and some more feisty rock and rollers like 'Boogie Queen' and 'One More Saturday Night'-its a fun
set balancing the laid back with some more energetic tracks. The studio Cd is fine too gathered from
everywhere including their first test recording 'Livin' on the Road'featuring Gerry Hogan from Albert Lee's
band on steel.'The Hobo Song' is produced by Nick Low and 'Friends of Dawn' features a line up including
legendary guitarist Ed Deane and Kevin McAlea who later played with Kate Bush among others. The
familiar Bees Make Honey line up gets some airings too and 'Booterstown', 'Chinee's Dead' and
'Kneetrembler' bring back sweet memories. This is music from a bygone age, but how good it sounds, how
simple, unapologetic and upfront. This is pure unfettered rock and roll played by a band that knew its stuff
and left a huge gap on their sad demise.
BEGGARS OPERA
1970 Repertoire / GER Prog. 14,90 €
CD - ACT ONE - (Mini-LP-sleeve)
RepUK 1036 UK
Scotland's Beggars Opera were formed in Glasgow in the late sixties as " System". Their early influences
were Procol Harum and The Nice, and especially classical composers such as Franz Suppe, an Austrian
citizen with an Italian mother and a Belgian father. They took their name from a successful play written in
1728 by English poet, John Gray. This debut album, released on the Vertigo "swirl" record label, was a
milestone in progressive rock music, and ensured that the young Scots attracted good audiences
wherever they performed, especially in Germany. The album was a classically inspired keyboard driven
extravaganza of progressive rock that resembled ELP in its pomp and intricacy The initial line-up was
Martin Griffiths on vocals, Alan Park on keyboards, Ricky Gardiner on guitars, Marshall Erskine on bass
and Raymond Wilson on drums. This new remastered edition contains 2 bonus tracks and is housed in a
square mini replica gatefold album sleeve plus fold out poster.
