finally an oficial pressing of these 2 megarare albums from Southafrican band playing inventive mind
stimulatin head-music. Abstract Truth was the brainchild of one Kenneth Edward Henson . The band
Abstract Truth existed only for a very short time, but it was a time of super-creativity. They exploded on to
the Durban music scene early in 1969, released 2 studio albums during 1970 (as well as a compilation in
the same year!) and, after numerous line-up changes, imploded in 1971. Henson had been the guitarist in
a band called the Leeman Ltd, which had formed in Durban in 1965. In 1966 he and the enigmatic Ramsay
MacKay got together with ex-Navarones members Colin Pratley and Nic Martens to create Freedom’s
Children, arguably South Africa’s greatest rock band. Henson was involved in the early single releases by
Freedom’s Children, which were unbelievably credited to "Fleadom’s Children" because the government of
the time considered the word "Freedom" as unacceptable! Henson then left Freedom’s Children to join
The Bats for a six-week sojourn. In 1969 Henson and sax-player Sean Bergin were in a jazz group called
The Sounds. Henson says, "In February 1969 I was approached by the owner of a local hotel. He had
heard that I played the sitar and asked if I could get together an exotic/Eastern-sounding outfit to back a
belly dancer in the hotel’s disco/pub." The pub was called "Totum" and was situated at the Palm Beach
Hotel in Durban’s Gillespie Street. Reporter Carl Coleman described their sound in a news article at the
time as "totally unlike any other young group around Durban. They are probably the most advanced group
in the country. Their music is exotic, progressive, and not commercial." The album ‘Totum’ was recorded
in Johannesburg over a single weekend using a 4-track machine. The album was released in early 1970.
"According to today’s standards it’s pretty rough," says Henson, "but I guess it was an honest
interpretation of what we were doing."
Classic Danish progressive. 2 albums on 1 CD. From the beginning to the end this is heavy progressive
with a focus on the mighty Jon Lordish organs and heavy guitar riffing. The first album is 2 long tracks.
The 2nd is shorter tracks. However, top quality Danish progressive and very recommended !!
Italian prog-rock at the very best! Acqua Fragile was formed in Parma by Bernardo Lanzetti (vocals,
guitar), Franz Dondi (bass), Maurizio Mori (keyboards), Piero Canavera (drums) and Gino Campanini
(guitar) in the early Seventies. Their same-titled debut album was released during 1973. Symphonic rock
and classical british pop was the mainstream music of those years; Acqua Fragile's sound was a little
different, still progressive but closer to west coast music than to italian bands as Banco or PFM.
Nevertheless it was PFM (with the assistance of Claudio Fabi) that produced Acqua Fragile's second
album "Mass Media Stars". The band's line-up changed during 1974:
Joe Vescovi, keyboards player for Trip, played several shows with Acqua Fragile, but the band split shortly
afterwards. The singer Bernardo Lanzetti went on to become PFM's vocalist in the highly successful mid-
Seventies. Unfortunately the acclaimed Acqua Fragile second album "Mass Media Stars" is currently out
of stock.
