xz new media The project’s objective is to initiate an artist’s residence in New Media in Guangzhou, the capital of China’s economically and demographically leading Guangdong province. The project will develop new methods of presentation and forms of cooperation, and positive responses to the challenges but especially opportunities that globalization today brings with itself. XZ New Media can be described as an innovative R & D unit for artistic production with integrated distribution and marketing resources. The residence is curator based, artist are invited for a two-month residency with an associated exhibition, lectures, workshops and public discussions. The project is based on the idea of art and education as a means for social sustainability, economic stability and multilateral networking. The aim is to establish a showroom in China for the digital art with a clear and visible profile through new media and a continuous stream of resident artists. Quality, visibility, continuity and presence along with artistic innovation, digital media, research, and social and educational skills are key to the projects’ success. XZ New Media will establish specific and tailor made strategies and programs for each individual artist. The project’s integrated production, distribution and marketing perspective, is based on the idea that they are all equivalent parts of an effective meeting place between artists and audiences. The artist’s production is fundamental, but also the attention which raises the power of its promotion. Hence the need for outreaching activities that can engage and stimulate different target groups in Chinese society, the media, the local art scene, or for that matter university institutions, teachers and students, in an open and creative dialogue. Thanks to Guangzhou Live’s anchored position on the scene and its public and media successes in Canton, the project possess already several potential local partners on the gallery scene, as well as in higher arts education. But also important contacts in the regional press, TV and radio. XZ New Media have received an initial funding of 280 000 RMB by the Swedish Arts Council.

It will offer producers of action art events, particularly in Europe and Asia access to a self-administered web portal and events calendar. The website provides all producers the possibility to present their organization, festivals and activities, and current and upcoming manifestations. iLAN includes a centralized event agenda, with information published by the various organizers themselves. As a tool iLAN’s strength lies in its decentralized structure where all the organizers themselves can manage their presentation and also publish info about their produced events. iLAN is not intended as an official network for action art organizers, although the effect in the long term may well generate greater cooperation and more synergy effects. iLAN is exclusively destined to be used by organizers of action art events, but could also be made available for artists to present themselves and their work.
