Information Package on the degree programmes of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Maribor Part TWO Page 14
The mechanical engineers with broad professional knowledge can find employment in almost all branches
of industry, R&D institutes, independent companies, design departments, as managers and members of
administration, project engineers, experts in the army or government consultants, etc.
The mechanical engineering graduates Ph. D. should be able to apply nowadays theory achievement and
upgrade with own research results to applicative development. Broad, interdisciplinary oriented study
courses and subjects provide to students base for own creative and innovative potential. The students are
going to be able to analyses problems, eliminate unimportant facts and build synthesis and provide
innovative solutions. They are going to be able provide best solution regarding to time and estimate the
consequence of provided solution. The graduate Ph.D. students are able to work independently,
innovative and non-conventional manner, but at the same time they are able to communicate with
industrial and scientific board at home or at international level.
Specific competence of professional mechanical engineers study program
Specific competence means direct development and application of specific knowledge. This knowledge is
developed during simulations, study of working examples or direct application of research results to find
solutions of practical problems. Graduated Ph.D. student of 3 rd level of Study program Mechanical
Engineering is scientist and expert with deepest theoretical and methodical knowledge. The obtained
knowledge is able to use for solving most difficult problems of design, planning and leading of scientific or
research developed activity. One of his main task is development of new original approach and solution
broad topics of Mechanical Engineering. Study of Mechanical Engineering provides students self scientific
building skill. He can selected appropriate courses and subjects according to either his own wishes or
company interest.
Specific competence is given for each subject. The 3 rd program study of Mechanical Engineering develops
follow main common competences:
− to develop and absorbed knowledge on selected scientific area, e.g. Design and Technical
Systems, and and understanding of engineering science,
− to search of new scientific sources on scientific and professional level
− to planning, estimation and develop new technology, innovative products and systems for
international market
− development of scientific and research methods in broad specter of problems and quick response
to new circumstances on world market
− to search of new solutions and scientific support to design and productions of devices, engines
and structures,
− development and application of new technological approach and process
− to search of new solutions and scientific approach to new high tech products
− integral approach to development, production and optimization of products and engines by
considering functionality of properties, shape, production, assembling, economy and maintenance
of products
− application of results of research form different branch to Mechanical Engineering
− to develop of individual creative thinking
− coherent application of fundamental knowledge and connecting of knowledge form different area
− admission of new information and interpretation in contents of base discipline
− to understand of general structure of base Mechanical Engineering discipline and connecting with
sub-discipline
− to understand for application of methods of critical analysis
− to develop of skill for application of knowledge for specific professional and scientific level
− to develop and application of sophisticate computational, information and communication
technology,
− to lead group work and to lead internal and external communication
− to take responsibility for leadership of most difficult systems
