2.7 EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT REGULATIONS
Timetables for examinations are issued annually by the Faculty Senate at the beginning of the academic year and are published
on the notice boards. There are six (6) examinations for each subject per academic year and students are free to choose the date
of their examinations. 5 or more students can ask for additional examinations for particular subjects by written request, but no
more than two per subject and per year are allowed. The academic staff are free to decide whether or not to oblige the requests
for additional examinations. It is the responsibility of students to know the date, time and location of all their exams and the
particular exam requirements. These are published on notice boards by respective teaching staff.
The examinations can take the form of written, oral, seminar or project work exams. Written examinations are usually closed-door
exams, while oral examinations are principally public. The usual examination sequence is:
− Individual seminar or project work examination; a successful seminar or project work completion is usually a precondition
for examination registration.
− Written group examination at published examination dates; the written examination can be as short as 10 minutes or can
last for several hours, depending on the subject.
− Oral examination is usually preconditioned by successful completion of written examination and it usually takes place a
week after the written examination.
The students have to register for an examination at least one week (7 days) before the examination date. Registration is done
strictly by electronic means through designated Faculty web-site. Each student is issued a PIN (Personal Identification Number)
with which he/she can identify his-/her-self electronically.
The students can cancel examination registration not later than three (3) days before the examination date. If late cancelling or
not showing-up for the examination, the students are usually prohibited from registering for the following examination period.
The students are entitled to retake exams three times without charge. After that they have to cover the expenses of the
examination when registering for the exam. The amount covering the examination expenses is decided yearly by the Faculty
Senate.
The decisions on use of calculators, computers, literature and other items at examinations depend on the preferences of teaching
staff and may vary significantly from subject to subject. The use of authored literature photocopies is strictly prohibited.
The grading scale’s is given on page 11 as part one of this Information Package.
