Over the next ten years the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Technical Sciences grew so much that it was split into four respective faculties (Mechanical<br />

and Textile Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Electrical Engineering) in 1995. The Faculty <strong>of</strong> Mechanical<br />

Engineering continues its work as an already established Institution <strong>of</strong> Higher Education with intensive research and development<br />

activities, well linked to related institutions both domestically and abroad.<br />

Today (in study year 2004/2005) faculty <strong>of</strong> Mechanical Engineering has more than 1500 undergraduate students and more than<br />

350 postgraduate students. Curses perform 123 academic staff with 110 research and administration employed staff.<br />

Organisation<br />

The Faculty has eight Chairs, seven Institutes and a separate Textile Department, see Figure 1.<br />

The Institutes are further divided into several well-equipped laboratories or working groups. Each Chair and Institute is chaired by<br />

a full pr<strong>of</strong>essor, who is responsible for its operation and the required high level <strong>of</strong> academic and pr<strong>of</strong>essional conduct <strong>of</strong> its<br />

members.<br />

1 UNIVERSITY STUDY PROGRAMME<br />

1.1 QUALIFICATION AWARDED<br />

The Faculty <strong>of</strong> Mechanical Engineering according to Slovenian law (ZSZN-1; Ur.l. Št. 61, 13.6.2006) <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

the Mechanical Engineering diploma. The students who completed study programme and successful<br />

diploma defence obtain pr<strong>of</strong>essional B.Sc. degree titled:<br />

1.2 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />

Diploma Engineer <strong>of</strong> Mechanic (Dipl. Ing. Mech.)<br />

The pr<strong>of</strong>essional-level study programmes are open to students:<br />

a) graduate with the so-called Matura final examination<br />

b) graduate with Matura final examination at any secondary school<br />

c) graduate with pr<strong>of</strong>essional final examination at any secondary school<br />

d) graduated before June 1st 1995 at any secondary school programme<br />

If decision about limit <strong>of</strong> student's number is accepted, than the candidates would be selected by<br />

follow criteria:<br />

- general success at pr<strong>of</strong>essional final examination or Matura final examination 60% points<br />

- general success at 3rd and 4th year <strong>of</strong> secondary school 40% points<br />

1.3 EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GOALS<br />

Basic goals <strong>of</strong> study programme<br />

The pr<strong>of</strong>essional study program 1 st degree <strong>of</strong> Mechanical Engineering is aimed to develop specialistengineer<br />

for different work and tasks in companies, where the engineers are able to solved practical<br />

problems based on theoretical and practical solutions, procedures and methods. It is more stressed<br />

practical knowledge <strong>of</strong> engineer then analytical and theoretical solutions. However, the engineer get<br />

excellent over-view on Mechanical Engineering studies. Students have choice via credit points system to<br />

select own study program in order to continue his study in second level <strong>of</strong> high education to M. Sc. master<br />

study program.<br />
