INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAMS<br />
<strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong> contributes a significant amount of resources to recruit and retain outstanding students.<br />
<strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers Institutional Scholarships in the following six categories:<br />
1. Academic Awards are those given to students in recognition of their scholastic abilities. <strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
offers the following academic scholarships: Trustees, Founders, and Presidential. Please see the Office of<br />
Enrollment Management for current eligibility regulations.<br />
2. Athletic Awards are those given to student-athletes in recognition of their athletic abilities.<br />
3. <strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong> Support Grant and the <strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong> Investment Grant go to those students<br />
whose overall characteristics make them students <strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong> wishes to have as members of its student<br />
body. Students are evaluated upon admission to the <strong>College</strong>.<br />
4. Church-Related Awards recognize the special relationship <strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong> has with churches of the<br />
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. <strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers the following church related scholarship:<br />
� Lutheran Grant – New and returning students who are members of a Lutheran Church may receive up<br />
to $1,000 per year. Students must submit a Lutheran Grant Application by July 1 for the Fall Semester<br />
and November 1 for the Spring Semester.<br />
5. Miscellaneous Awards include:<br />
� Family Discount Grant is given to students who have at least one sibling currently attending <strong>Newberry</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong>.<br />
� Legacy Scholarship is given to students who have a parent or grand-parent who graduated from<br />
<strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />
� Residential Assistant Room and Board is given to students who are current residential assistants.<br />
Student Affairs selects all residential assistants.<br />
SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED THROUGH THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION<br />
Alumni and friends have contributed funds to ensure future students enrolling at <strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
receive financial aid. Funds from the Alumni Endowed Scholarship and from funds contributed by classes of<br />
1928, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1933, 1937, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, and 1989 help provide scholarship<br />
support. Using these funds, the Alumni Association Board of Managers, in consultation with the Financial Aid<br />
Office, selects recipients from applications received.<br />
In general, the Alumni Association awards two scholarships each year to entering students. Students<br />
receiving these scholarships may apply for their renewal as long as the established criteria are met. The<br />
deadline for a new application is March 15 and the deadline for renewal applications is March 1. The<br />
application form for new applications is on the <strong>Newberry</strong> <strong>College</strong> Web site at www.newberry.edu or<br />
available on request from the Alumni Office. Renewal applications for the next academic year will be<br />
sent to students during the second semester and are available from the Alumni Office.<br />
In addition to the general scholarships, the Alumni Association also identifies recipients for these<br />
scholarships, which follow similar guidelines and criteria (e.g., 3.0 GPA):<br />
• Ellen Wingard Cobb Scholarship<br />
• Alumni Endowed Scholarship<br />
• Greenwood Area Scholarship (top fifty percent of class)<br />
• Greenville Area Scholarship<br />
• African American Alumni Scholarship<br />
OFF-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT<br />
A limited number of off-campus employment possibilities are available in the <strong>Newberry</strong> area. For<br />
information about part-time jobs off-campus, contact Career Services in the Center for Student Success.<br />
