<strong>St</strong>udent <strong>New</strong>s<br />
Luke Croswell (left) received the Timothy Hamburger<br />
’84 Volunteerism Award, which is presented to a<br />
graduating senior or seniors who best exemplifies<br />
community service and volunteerism. The award<br />
carries a $500 cash honorarium and a recognition<br />
certificate. Also shown are school principal Dominic<br />
J. Cavello (center) and faculty member Matt Downey,<br />
Croswell’s nominator.<br />
Danny McGregor (left) was presented The Anson Y.<br />
Chan Memorial Junior Latin Award, awarded annually<br />
to the junior who scores the highest grade for Latin III<br />
on the National Latin Exam. McGregor scored 39 out of<br />
40 on the exam. It comes with a $1,000 prize.<br />

George <strong>St</strong>evens received the inaugural <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Charles</strong><br />
Advisory Board Chairman’s Award from Principal<br />
Dominic J. Cavello. The award is presented to a senior<br />
student who has worked hard, embodies the ideals of<br />
<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Charles</strong> and demonstrates a concern for those in<br />
need. The recognition included a $500 honorarium and<br />
a book and was sponsored by board chairman Robert<br />
W. Horner III ’79.<br />
Thomas Hurst received the inaugural Monsignor<br />
Thomas M. Bennett Book Award, given to a deserving<br />
academically successful senior in recognition of his<br />
concern for <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Charles</strong>, and his acts of Christian<br />
charity to those in need. The award, presented here by<br />
Principal Dominic J. Cavello, is sponsored by Dr. Dan<br />
Ross, Class of 1967. It carries a $500 cash prize and<br />
a four-volume set of books titled, The History of the<br />
English-Speaking Peoples, by Winston Churchill.<br />
Division I signees<br />
Seniors Zach Jordan (left) and Matt Lampson signed<br />
athletic Letters of Intent with Division I schools in<br />
May. Jordan (track and field) will attend the College of<br />
William & Mary in Virginia and Lampson signed with<br />
Northern Illinois University (soccer).<br />
Mampieri new golf coach<br />
Anthony Mampieri,<br />
Class of 1993, is<br />
the school’s new<br />
varsity golf coach.<br />
He succeeds Bart<br />
Mahoney who led<br />
the <strong>Cardinals</strong> since<br />
2002, including a<br />
5th place finish at<br />
this year’s Division<br />
I <strong>St</strong>ate Golf<br />
Championships.<br />
Anthony Mampieri ’93<br />
He graduated in<br />
1997 from Miami<br />
(OH) University with a finance degree<br />
and went to work in sales for Parker<br />
Hannifin in Cleveland and San Diego.<br />
He returned to Columbus two years later<br />
and teamed with his brother L. Michael<br />
Mampieri (a <strong>St</strong>. Francis DeSales grad)<br />
to open M & I Landscapes, a landscape<br />
design/build company.<br />
Mampieri played golf for the <strong>Cardinals</strong><br />
all four years at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Charles</strong> and he’s<br />
coached the school’s junior varsity and<br />
freshmen golf teams for the past two<br />
years. Assisting him with the varsity<br />
team will be Eric Horvath ’93, the varsity<br />
B coach.<br />
Anthony and his wife of almost five<br />
years, Leeanne Elizabeth Kurgan, an<br />
alumna of Bishop Hartley High <strong>School</strong>,<br />
live in Reynoldsburg with their two sons,<br />
Luca Michael (2) and Vincent Anthony<br />
(6 months). They’re members of <strong>St</strong>.<br />
Pius X where Anthony has served on<br />
parish council for the last year and also<br />
volunteers with the Ronald McDonald<br />
House.<br />
Ey new soccer coach<br />
Richard L. “Rick”<br />
Ey, Class of 1994,<br />
is the school’s<br />
new varsity soccer<br />
coach. A former<br />
four-year <strong>St</strong>.<br />
<strong>Charles</strong> soccer<br />
player, Ey has<br />
taught 9th and<br />
10th grade English<br />
at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Charles</strong> since<br />
Richard L. Ey ’94 2002. He served<br />
as an assistant<br />
to outgoing varsity soccer coach, Matt<br />
Highland, the last five seasons.<br />
Ey graduated from Ohio University<br />
(1999) with a degree in English and<br />
taught Spanish at Washington<br />
Courthouse High <strong>School</strong> (1999-2002).<br />
He recently received his master of arts<br />
in liberal science from Ohio Dominican<br />
University. Ey and his wife, Brie, reside<br />
in the Eastmoor area.<br />
