in pedigreed stock, Philly has a thriving secondhand
clothing scene. Here’s a list to get you started:
thE ChEAP: Jeans for less than
$10, T-shirts for a buck
Second Mile Center
214 S 45th St (at Walnut)/ 215-662-1663
A church-run shop (dig the heavy murals on the righthand
wall), with a large, constantly restocked selection.
A row of three or four shops selling clothing and
furniture, books and electronics, dishes and assorted
domestic knickknacks. Open until 8 PM.
toviah thrift Shop
4211 Chestnut St/ 215-382-7251
A small, interesting, random sort of place. You might
not find anything here you want to buy, but it’s fun to
look, and if you do find something it’ll be cheap.
Salvation Army thrift Store
2240 Market St/ 215-561-0178
The old standby. This one’s a pretty good shop, with
two levels of used clothing.

A great all-around thrift store.

Buffalo Exchange

Part of a national chain of thrift stores that reliably
offers quality used clothes at decent prices.
Greene Street
Consignment Shop

A wide selection of all sorts of clothes, from shoes
to hats, t-shirts to evening gowns, in next-to-new
condition. Generally, nothing more than two years
old is on the racks.
Vintage Clothing Co.
530 S 4th St (at South)/ 215-925-7607
Don’t expect to get any fantastic bargains here. But if
you’re into polyester, this is the place to go.
