A physical meeting was also conducted at the SKG Sangha office, Kolar, Karnataka State. The report and minutes of the meeting and meeting details were explained in section: C3. The LSC meeting carried no fixed time table but the following aspects were part of the Agenda: 1. Detailed description of the PoA and CPAs activities 2. Participants opinions and comments 3. Gold Standard Local Stakeholder Consultation Report Basic Activity of PoA: Installation of domestic size biodigesters one each for household Aim of the PoA The aim of the PoA is to cover all the eligible households in India to assure sustainable household energy supply. To achieve this goal the project Manager, SKG Sangha will involve all the relevant stake holders like, farmers, NGOs, local government authorities, Women’s organisations, financial institutions. Constitution of PoA: The PoA constitutes many numbers of CPAs. Each CPA involves installation of biodigesters of 2- 6 cubic metre volumes. The number of units in each CPA may vary depending upon the area, emission savings per unit, general demand of the people and funds available for each project. The biodigester unit will be regularly fed with the available cow dung, kitchen waste water and other organic putrecible material in the household to generate biogas to replace the fire wood, kerosene, LPG and other fossil fuels used for domestic energy needs. The activity of the PoA will make the households self sufficient in the basic daily fuel necessity for cooking and heating. Baseline Scenario: In the baseline scenario the cow dung is collected to compost pits where it ferments anaerobically and emits GHGs, portion of the fire wood used for cooking is non-renewable as the sustainable yield of biomass is far lesser than the demand and use of fossil fuels for cooking emits GHGs. The biogas produced from cattle manure is a renewable source of energy as the CO2 that is absorbed during the growth of the organic matter in the dung equals the CO2 emitted when the biogas is burnt (see the introduction in chapter 10.1, Volume 4 of the Revised IPCC Guidelines 2006). Sustainable Benefits to the participating households: The project will have the following sustainable developments apart from carbon savings: Efficient cooking stoves fired with biogas will reduce indoor air pollution and respiratory problems currently caused by smoke from inefficient cook stoves burning fuel wood and kerosene; Currently the majority of the collected fuel wood used for cooking and heating water represents non-renewable biomass. The installation of a biogas unit will reduce the consumption of fuel wood by participating households and will therefore reduce the pressure on scarce forest resources in the project area; Women and children can use time that was otherwise required for collecting fuel wood for education and generating income; Biogas provides a more convenient, dependable energy source that is renewable and that reduces cooking time as there is no longer a need to set a fire and get it going; 5
