Freeride is neither a style nor a sport to itself. It simply refers<br />
to riding out in the op<strong>en</strong>, away from marked,<br />
groomed slopes and trails. Naturally, freeriding is the most fun<br />
in powder. Freeriding is not equipm<strong>en</strong>t-specifi c: Skis or a snowboard<br />
may be used. While unmarked terrain was mainly<br />
the realm of touring in the past, special freeride equipm<strong>en</strong>t is readily available today.<br />
The common d<strong>en</strong>ominator is that all such equipm<strong>en</strong>t features<br />
a larger running surface and permits wider curves and higher speeds in deep snow.<br />
