1059 Emperor H<strong>en</strong>ry IV gives the Bishop of Augsburg<br />
hunting grounds around the Widderstein (Mountain) as a<br />
gift. The area is part of his sovereign territory until 1814.<br />
ca. 1300 Perman<strong>en</strong>t settlem<strong>en</strong>t of the landscape on the<br />
young Lech by the Walser who come from the canton of<br />
Wallis in Western Switzerland and clear the high valley.<br />
Because of its trees, the area is called Tannberg<br />
(= Fir Mountain) on the Lech. Lech is only adopted later.<br />
The Walser are provided with the land by the Swabian<br />
landlords in exchange for a minor fee. In order to support<br />
settlem<strong>en</strong>t in the sparse mountain landscape, they are,<br />
among other things, provided with their own court<br />
located in the white house. The oldest building next to<br />
the parish church, it has be<strong>en</strong> preserved to this day. The<br />
Walser court originally included the neighbouring<br />
communities of Schröck<strong>en</strong>, Hochkrumbach, Warth and<br />
