apt in awe coming from a much broader aspect of self than I had previously held. It was not my first aid training nor medical intervention that helped me to see the way, it was something beyond my rational reckoning, something more in the realm of the spiritual. The process that followed involved harmonizing my rational and spiritual interpretations of reality. The experience of this accident and the broader understanding that unfolded has impelled me to share my thoughts and experiences from beyond the punctured membrane of my material mindset. Perhaps it will help someone out there afloat in the experience of living, breathing, and being to relate. The contents of rapt in awe represent various styles of expression from analytical prose to lyrical verse, graphic diagrams to artistic sketches intentionally assembled in order to convey the abstract nature of the book. How you choose to read the text is for you to decide, you may choose to read sequentially from the beginning to the end as the book is laid out, or simply flip through and ruminate on a specific diagram or selection of text. To honour the premise presented within these pages about the very nature of consciousness, I must simply invite you to develop your own unique relationship with the ideas within. The way consciousness works is much like magnetic attraction – ideasthatresonatewith questions you are holding, thoughts you are pondering, will draw you to sections that are relevant to you. Language, at its essence, is a collection of representative symbols. Symbols require relation-‐ ship to be understood. The associated meanings must be integra-‐ ted into one’s own frames of reference. Letters come togetherto form words and words will hold slightly different meanings for each of us depending on our past experience, upbringing, culture, and education. The subtle deviations in comprehension of intend-‐ ed meaning can amplify in the context of a clause or a sentence particularly in the realm of the page, section, or an entire book. Thus each reader will have a unique understanding of what is written, and I may miscommunicate as much or even more than I 13

Thoughts influence energy as it forms into our tangible reality at the quantum level and this can connect each of us when we attune to it, and this is a concept that we will explore extensively in rapt in awe. Thus understanding can reached beyond this woven tapestry of words. Thissymphonyofstylesismeanttoelicit multiple modes of understanding, and to tap the diverse intelligences within each of us. Often when I encounter a word or concept that is new to me, I respond with a certain amount of guardedness and resist-‐ ance that is counterproductive to understanding. There are likely to be terms presented within that conjure such a response for many. I reference certain esoteric words from diverse fields of inquiry each with specific ways of saying. I have created footnotes to explain the intricacies of such terms to assist with this. The depth of the questions explored with rapt in awe is bound to illicit a potential sense of overwhelm for the reader. Despite writing it, this overwhelm stills happens for me when I dig in. If this happens, I strongly recommend closing the book and setting it aside until the time that it beckons again. Your own inner knowing is the most crucial component to accessing the ever-‐present awe. This awe is always there beyond what is immediately apparent to our senses. There are many other names for it from diverse cultural origins and fields of inquiry. It is not something that you can own or patent or put in a jar to sell.
