23 rapt in awe consciousness is calling to you to express your creative genius. Modernity is merely one stage in the evolution of consciousness, and attachment to contemporary modernist beliefs tends to resist and restrict this unfolding developmental process. Again this is a habitual tendency that is becomes ingrained for each of us. Rapt in awe in its essence is about this evolution of consciousness and how our collectively disassociated mindsets inhibit this natural progression. Integral Theory, eloquently framed and popularized by contemporary philosopher Ken Wilber, provides a structure for understanding and analyzing the evolution of consciousness, and I rely heavily upon it to illustrate the ideas within rapt in awe. The Integral Approach 6 tells us that knowledge is intimately depen-‐ dent upon perspectives. One’s cultural orientation and personal frames of reference will determine what is perceived. Each facet of interpretation holds some aspect of truth, yet remains incomplete without multiple perspectives. A single photograph provides a perspective, whereas multiple images from various angles creates a much more accurate understand of the subject. The very act of integrating diverse modes of inquiry enables us to access Integral consciousness. The terms Integral 7 in this context directly refers to the act of integrating various viewpoints to create a more rich and comprehensive outlook. Ken Wilber identified the consistent correlations between multiple modes of inquiry and created the Four Quadrant Model 8 . The vertical axis distinguishes subjective approaches from objective, spirit from matter. The individual and the collective are parsed by the horizontal axis. Wilber refers to this model as a map of reality. A map by definition is a representative tool to aid in understanding the landscape. When we are route finding over a landscape we are most often in unfamiliar terrain and a map creates a scaled graphic image to help us grasp the bigger picture of what is around. Maps provide layers of information that aid in orientation for finding our way. I love maps. From the earliest days of colouring maps in grade school to route finding in complex mountain terrain, maps have helped shape my relationship with the world around me.
