THEATRE
The College of the Canyons Theatre Department
offers courses in both theory and practice. It is
committed to teaching an immediately useful set
of theatre skills, including acting, script-writing,
design, technical production and directing while
providing a wide spectrum of production experiences
in which to practice them; and to place the
art of theatre in its larger historical context. The
theatre program presents theatrical productions
for the college, community and students.
DANCE
The College of the Canyons Dance Department
is designed to assist in the development of an
appreciation of dance from both movement
and non-movement perspectives. The program
introduces and develops basic, intermediate and
advanced dance techniques and focuses on
providing students with exposure to a variety
of dance styles, techniques and training. The
program also provides on- and off-campus
performance activities. Dance classes offered
include fundamentals of dance, basic ballet,
modern jazz, world, African, social, tap,
performance, choreography and yoga.
MUSIC
The College of the Canyons Music Department
offers a broad range of academics, ensembles
and programs for both students and community
members. The Symphony of the Canyons plays
a wealth of classical and romantic music, as well
as the most recent in contemporary literature.
Through the Voices of the Canyons, Chamber
Singers, Just Jazz, House Blend and Les
Chanteuses ensembles, students learn relevant
issues concerning performance, practice and
rehearsal techniques. Voice development/studio
singing classes emphasize the learning of vocal
skills while expanding the singer's classical and
pop repertoires. By becoming a member of the
Jazz Ensemble, performers get an insight

into the jazz band tradition, as well as diverse contemporary
popular currents. Other areas
of study include music technology, music
composition, an applied music program, as
well as opportunities for one-on-one lessons.
K-12 ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAM
The program uses the college’s vast cultural and
community resources to expose students to the
visual and performing arts - while also collaborating
with teachers and administrators in school
districts throughout the area to develop an
enhanced arts education curriculum and a
variety of unique educational opportunities
for all students. Among the many goals of the
program is the promotion of arts education
teaching and learning strategies, which could
potentially be passed on from artist to teachers
in a variety of different settings – including
workshops, artist classroom visits, special
presentations, mentor programs and various
teaching/learning community partnerships –
to help better communicate the arts to their
