CAST assembles, interprets, and communicates credible
science-based information regionally, nationally, and
internationally to legislators, regulators, policymakers,
the media, the private sector, and the public. CAST is a
nonprofit organization composed of scientific societies
and many individual, student, company, nonprofit, and
associate society members. CAST’s Board of Directors is
composed of representatives of the scientific societies and
an Executive Committee. CAST was established in 1972
as a result of a meeting sponsored in 1970 by the National
Academy of Sciences, National Research Council.
The authors named in each publication are responsible
for the contents. The CAST Board of Directors is
responsible for the policies and procedures followed
in developing, processing, and disseminating the
documents produced.

The National Pork Board has responsibility for
Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer
information projects and for communicating with
pork producers and the public. Through a legislative
national Pork Checkoff, pork producers invest $0.40
for each $100 value of hogs sold. The Pork Checkoff
funds national and state programs in advertising,
consumer information, retail and foodservice
marketing, export market promotion, production
improvement, technology, swine health, pork safety
and environmental management. For information on
Checkoff-funded programs, pork producers can call
the Pork Checkoff Service Center at (800) 456-PORK or
check the Internet at pork.org.
