construction will be necessary. Agreed to use
guard vessels to patrol the working corridor and
ensure smaller fishing vessels deploying static gear
observe the designated work corridor. NFFO
preference is for trenched and buried pipelines.
Q3/Q4 2010 RDUK and NFFO shall start working on
a collaboration/co-operation plan for liaison with
local fisherman during pipeline construction
activities in 2011.
RDUK contacted three groups within the MMO
• North Shields District Inspector;
• Grimsby District Inspector;
• Marine Consents (North Shields).
RDUK sent a short project briefing and a summary
of the meeting with NFFO for review and comment
to the MMO. Response was as follows:
The MMO agreed with the actions identified during
the NFFO consultation. The MMO expressed a
desire for smaller fishing businesses which may not
be members of the NFFO to be included in the
consultation/collaboration plan.
The NESFC requested that:
• Near shore fishing activities were
accurately identified;
• Consult DECC and DEFRA data regarding
near shore fishing activities;
• Consider undertaking beam trawls as part
of the near shore survey.
Baseline survey to be undertaken and any potential
impacts addressed.
CEFAS did not comment on the proposed
development but requested that a copy of the ES
be distributed to the OCNS team.
