Bell Memorial Park

An active-use park with four baseball fields, pavilions,
picnic areas, parking, concessions and a playground.
Hopewell Youth Association maintains the league through
a use agreement with the City of Milton.
Bethwell Community Center
2695 Hopewell Road
Recently renovated, the Bethwell Community Center
houses City of Milton Parks and Recreation programs and
activities and summer day camps. It is available for individual

Birmingham Park
750 Hickory Flat Road
This 200-acre site, located behind Fire Station No. 43 at
750 Hickory Flat Road, is currently undeveloped but open
for passive use (hiking, dog walking, or horseback riding).
This park’s master plan is complete and awaiting funding.
Crabapple Community Center
12615 Broadwell Road
Currently closed as plans for the property are finalized.
Friendship Community Park
12785 Birmingham Highway
This 1.81 acre park, opened Dec. 1, 2012, is a joint venture
with the the Fulton County School System. Located
between Crabapple Crossing Elementary and Northwestern
Middle School, it features a small picnic pavilion,
walking path, half court basketball and a play field.
Please note: The park is closed to the general public during
active school hours, generally 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., on
days school is in session. The children of the surrounding
schools utilize the park during that time. To see days

Hopewell House

This historic structure, dated back to at least 1865, is
currently closed as plans for the property are finalized.
Providence Park
13440 Providence Park Drive
This 40-acre park is currently still under possession
and maintenance by Fulton County and will belong to
the City of Milton as early as December 2012 once the
final stage of environmental contamination cleanup

Providence Park so it can be open to the public.

Milton/Alpharetta parks partnership
Thanks to a partnership with the City
of Alpharetta Parks and Recreation Department,
on Dec. 1 2012 Milton and
Alpharetta established a regionalized
parks system for both cities and dissolved
all non-resident fees at current
and future city facilities.
According to the terms of the agreement,
the cities will annually negotiate
a variable maintenance fee - for 2012,
the fee is $325,000. For that price, Milton
residents can use all the City of Alpharetta
programs and facilities they
know and love without incurring nonresident
fees, which can add as much
as 75 percent to the cost of participating.
Alpharetta residents may also use
any current and future Milton facilities
without incurring extra costs.
Milton’s cost in the agreement will
decrease incrementally as the city brings forward additional
facilities and programs utilized by Alpharetta
residents.
Following is a list of frequently asked questions regarding
registration for parks and recreation programs in
Milton and Alpharetta. Please note: Milton’s established
registration schedules will not change.
I registered for an Alpharetta program online
and it charged me fees. Can I get a refund?
City of Milton residents who choose to register online
for City of Alpharetta recreation programs during open
registration will be charged non-resident fees by the online
software system. However, these non-resident fees
shall be refunded upon request.
City of Milton residents must e-mail recreation@alpharetta.ga.us
to request refund of non-resident fees
paid during online registration.
The refund will be issued to the customer’s credit
card. Once the refund has been processed, Alpharetta’s
Parks and Recreation Department will e-mail a
credit voucher to the customer.
Can I register using priority registration?
Priority registration for Alpharetta programs begin
two weeks before open registration. Priority registration
is for Milton and Alpharetta residents who par-

ticipated in the same recreation program the previous
year with the city offering the program.
Milton residents must register in person during the
two week period at Milton’s City Hall or online (for Milton
programs) or any Alpharetta Recreation and Parks
facility (for Alpharetta programs) during regular business
hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday,
and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday).

When can non-priority Milton residents
register?
City of Milton residents who have not participated
in a specific Alpharetta program may register one week
before open registration.
Milton residents may register in person at any Alpharetta
Recreation and Parks facility during regular
business hours, by fax, by mail, or by e-mailing a completed
activity registration form available at www.alpharetta.ga.us
to recreation@alpharetta.ga.us.
When is open registration?
Open registration for Alpharetta programs is held
two weeks after the start of priority registration. Registration
methods available include online (for applicable
programs), in person, by fax, by mail, or by
e-mail.

Special Events
March 16 - Bulky Trash Day
8 a.m. to noon, Roswell Public Works Facility
The City of Milton Public Works Department and
Milton Grows Green are offering residents a bulky
trash amnesty day Saturday, March 16, so gather your
large items for disposal.
From 8 a.m to noon, residents of Milton can bring
items to the City of Roswell Public Works Division at
1810 Hembree Road in Roswell. Only City of Milton and
Roswell residents will be served. Proof of residency will
be required, and utility bills are preferred.
March 23 - Milton Volunteer Appreciation event
Noon to 2 p.m., Friendship Community Park
The City of Milton will hold a luncheon Saturday,
March 23 at Friendship Community park to honor its
many volunteers. All volunteers from service groups,
boards and committees (and their families and spouses)
are invited.
April 20 – Earth Day Festival
11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friendship Community Park
Milton Grows Green (MGG) and City of Milton are
proud to announce the 4th Annual Earth Day Festival is
scheduled for Saturday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
in Friendship Community Park.
This fun, free family event is part of Milton’s efforts
to increase environmental awareness in the community
and will include entertainment, a rock wall, one-ofa-kind
crafts and unique environmental games. There
will also be food from local eateries, vendors displaying
“green” products and services, and much, much more.
May 27 – Memorial Day
9:30 a.m., City Hall
The yearly Memorial Day commemoration will again
be held at Milton’s City Hall and feature a flyover, invocation,
presentation of colors, call to colors, songs, a
Keynote Speaker, a roll call of deceased veterans, and
a benediction.

General camps
Camp Joyful Soles (13-18 year olds)
Hopewell Middle School
Description: This small, specialized camp for special
needs children is limited to just 20 participants a week
and includes arts and crafts, games, special guests, fitness
classes and swimming once a week.
Guardians may register for all eight weeks or a week
at a time.
Cost: Cost is $125 for Milton and Alpharetta residents
and $187.50 for non-residents per week.
There is a $50 per-week, non-refundable, non-transferable
fee to hold spaces in future weeks. Remainder
of the balance is due prior to the week reserved.

YMCA Summer Day Camp (5-12 year olds)
Hopewell Middle School
Description: Campers may select between two
specialties: Triple Play includes arts and crafts, science
and group sports; Sports Skill Clinic offers a different
sport each week. Tennis, basketball, soccer
and flag football will each be offered twice during
the summer.
All campers participate in nature and outdoor
education, group games and a weekly open swim at
the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA. The Y values
of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility are
reinforced throughout the camp program.
Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free, supervised
pre- and post-camp care is available from
7:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Campers will bring a
lunch and two snacks with them each day.
Cost: Cost for Milton residents is $170 per week
and $255 per week for non-residents.
A $25 deposit per session will be required at time
of registration in order to secure enrollment.

Halftime Sports Basketball Camp (6-14 year olds)
Northwestern Middle School
Description: Halftime Sports has quickly developed

a national reputation for hosting some of the finest
boys and girls basketball camps around the country.
Kim Coleman, 2006-2007 Region 6-AAAAA Coach of
the Year will teach the camp.
Only the first 80 players will be accepted. Camps are
held in air-conditioned, hardwood basketball facilities.

North Georgia Rec Lacrosse Camp (6-14 year olds)
Bell Memorial Park
Description: North Georgia Rec BOYS LACROSSE
Summer Camps are directed by Jim Westbrook. Campers
receive technical skills and strategy training over
the course of the camp. Westbrook will be assisted by
top local high school and college players. Players need
to wear comfortable athletic clothing and shoes and
bring a helmet, pads, stick, mouth guard and gloves.
They also need to bring water and a light snack.
North Georgia Rec GIRLS LACROSSE Summer Camp
is run by North Georgia Rec staff who coach high school
girls lacrosse at Milton and Northview. The camp is
designed to provide campers with the opportunity to
learn and develop lacrosse skills, technique, and strategies
through several drills and game-like situations.
Campers are expected to provide their own equipment
– stick, mouthguard and goggles.

Eagle Stix Lacrosse (5-14 year olds -- girls only)
Northwestern Middle School, other locations as needed
Description: Eagle Stix will be conducting a fall recreation
lacrosse program for girls in Pre-K through 8th
grade. Player evaluations will begin the week of Aug. 27.
The primary purpose of the evaluations is to allow Eagle
Stix to balance the teams as much as possible.

Hopewell Middle School
Description: The Minikicker program is an introduction
to the sport of soccer for your little athlete. This is a low
intensity, highly fun and incredibly informational league.
All games will be held at Hopewell Middle School on Saturday
mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. You will have stations
set for learning skills and drills and will end the day with a
scrimmage against another team.
Your little Minikicker will come out of the program having
learned some basic skills and having a good time kicking
the ball around.

Winter Athletics
North Georgia Rec Basketball (6-12 year olds)
Northwestern Middle School, Hopewell Middle School
Description: Basketball is offered only in the Winter
through North Georgia Recreation. Our Winter season
is for boys and girls ages 6-12 years. Our Six Shooters
program for 6 year old boys and girls is an instructional
program held once a week on Tuesdays or Thursdays at
5:30pm. The 7-12 year old boys and girls participate in a
league with 1 practice a week and a game on the weekends.
We use several of the local schools to hold practices
and games. As players progress through our different
age groups, they are provided with many opportunities
to develop and fine-tune their ball handling skills, court
movement as well as learn offensive and defensive strategy.
Age groups are based on the child’s age as of September
1st of the current school year. All 9-12 year olds
will go through evaluations. Evaluations are mandatory
and will be held on Oct. 20, 2012.

Spring Athletics
Alpharetta Youth Softball Association (6U - 13-plus)
Alpharetta North Park (through partnership)
Description: The Alpharetta Youth Softball Association
(AYSA) is a volunteer organization providing a quality
softball league for girls in Alpharetta, Milton, and
the North Fulton area. We focus on developing playing
skills, good sportsmanship, promoting physical fitness
and contributing to the quality of life in the City of Alpharetta
and surrounding areas by ensuring access to a
team sport for young girls.

Sperber Music “Mini-Musicians” Winter Class (3-5 year
olds)
Bethwell Community Center
Description: This class introduces children to music in
a fun and innovative way. It features captivating songs,
dances and games. Children will play musical instrucments
like drums, rhythm sticks, jingle bells, tambourines,
xylophones and many more. Creative Play will be explored
through children’s literature, scarves and puppets.
Class size is limited to 10 children per session. Sesssion
1 must fill up before session 2 will be opened. Check Web

19th Annual North Fulton Golden Games (50 and older)
Various locations throughout North Fulton
Description: Are you an active senior looking for a fun
and rewarding way to enjoy the beautiful Georgia spring?
Then the 19th Annual North Fulton Golden Games are for
you.
This year’s games, scheduled throughout the month
of May, are open to area adults 50 and older. Registration
is just $15 for as many events as you would like and
includes a T-shirt and opening day picnic lunch.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m. May 1 in
Johns Creek’s beautiful Newtown Park, home of the Park
Place senior center. There North Fulton Mayors will compete
in a “Minute to Win It” style challenge to prove who
reigns supreme.
Track and field events, including a one-mile walk and
run, half-mile walk, flying disc throw, discus and shot-put
throw, washer toss, ladder golf and football throw, begin
after the opening ceremony.
Throughout the month, participants can look forward
to the 4th annual Wii video game bowling tournament, a
dance competition, bunco, poker and mah jong contests,
Sperber Music “Mini-Musicians” Spring Class (3-5 year
olds)
Bethwell Community Center
Description: This class introduces children to music in
a fun and innovative way. It features captivating songs,
dances and games. Children will play musical instrucments
like drums, rhythm sticks, jingle bells, tambourines,
xylophones and many more. Creative Play will be explored
through children’s literature, scarves and puppets.
Class size is limited to 10 children per session. Sesssion
1 must fill up before session 2 will be opened. Check Web

rounds of corn hole and a softball skill challenge.
Please note, there is an extra $10 registration cost for
bowling and bocce.
Additionally, golfers may sign up as a team or individuals
for the always popular tournament held Tuesday, May
14 at the Alpharetta Athletic Club’s West Course on Dinsmore
Road in Milton.
With over 350 participants in 2012, registration fills up
quickly! Cost is $45 per golfer. Register by April 12 to be
eligible for a $50 gift card drawing.
The games will wrap up with a luncheon and awards
ceremony Thursday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at the Helene Mills
Senior Multipurpose Center, 515 John Wesley Dobbs Ave.
in Sandy Springs.
There will be a final health fair Wednesday, May 29 at
the Roswell Adult Recreation Center, 830 Grimes Bridge
Road in Roswell.
