Year 7 raise over $200 for Japanese Disaster Relief
On Wednesday, 23rd March,
the students of Year 7 held a
cake stall to help the victims of
the earthquake and tsunami in
Japan.
This was a student initiative
and the response from all
members of the group was very
impressive.
Trestle tables groaned under
the sheer volume of cakes as
the salesmen and saleswomen
of Year 7 lightened the pockets
of the older students and the
staff for a good cause.
A total of $211.50 was

Enrichment Lessons
Tuesday, February 8th, saw the first of
three enrichment days for Year 7 to focus
on the cross-curriculum collaborative unit
of work on “Identity”.
Students worked in groups of four
or five to produce a magazine which
incorporates subject-related tasks from
each participating subject.
Students used their iPads to locate
information, collect images and record
their ideas ready for publication in their
magazines at the end of the term.

Off to a flying start with iPads
Reflecting on their first few days in secondary school,
using “Pages app”, Year 7 students enthusiastically typed
up their thoughts and feelings about the activities and
orientation they had recently experienced. Not a sound was
heard except for the clicking of fingers!
The next step was to email their teachers (Mrs Dundon
and Mrs Jones) for comment and also post it on the intranet
for them to view and comment in like manner.
What a defining moment in the history of All Saints’
College and in our teaching!

Designing Magazines
On Thursday, 24th March, Year
7 spent a full day in the computer
room surrounded by the technology
needed to piece their cross-curricular
magazine together.
The day began with a
demonstration and instruction by
Mrs Cherylene Anderson on the
desktop publishing programme
‘InDesign’.
True to form these digitally adept
and enthusiastic students absorbed
these skills immediately and began
the layout and arrangement of the
various articles for their group
magazine. They were assisted all day
on the technical side by Mr Robert
McLean, Mr Patrick Sinclair and Mr
Garry Anderson.
The teachers of their various
subjects - Mrs Catherine Dundon,
Mrs Sue King and Mrs Tessa Jones
- spent time assisting and admiring
the students’ seamless organisation,
collaboration and productivity.
