The Eleventh Station:
Jesus is Nailed to the Cross
Leader: We adore you, oh Christ, and we praise you.
All: (kneel) Because by your holy cross you have redeemed
the world.
Leader: (stand) "When you
have lifted up the Son of man,
then you will know that I am
he, and that I do nothing on my
own authority but speak thus as
the Father taught me. And he
who sent me is with me; he has
not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him." As
he spoke thus, many believed in him. Jesus then said to the
Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word,
you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and
the truth will make you free." (Jn 8: 28-32)
Meditation: Now the moment has come for the Son of God
to be nailed to the Cross. The helplessness, the hatred and
rejection, the excruciating pain up to this point leave one
wondering if it could get any worse. It could and it did as
Jesus was mercilessly nailed to the Cross and raised up for
three agonizing hours. A hideous sight: God mocked and subjected
to the prideful, cruel and selfish judgments of man. A
mother’s sorrow as she stands nearby, uniting herself to her
