erected for the manufacture of fine ging -<br />

hams. The mill now has 16,000 frame spindles<br />

and 1,050 looms, and employs 550 hands ,<br />

producing 2,500 pieces weekly . The original<br />

capital was increased in 1884 to $400,000 ,<br />

and in 1904 decreased to $100,000 and raise d<br />

to $350,000. Mr. Chase was succeeded a s<br />

president in 1900 by Jerome C . Borden .<br />

The Flint mills were organized in February,<br />

1872, with a capital of $500,000, increased<br />

A five-story mill, 300x94, was erecte d<br />

destroyed by fire October 28, 1882, and at<br />

once rebuilt. The plant has 50,816 fram e<br />

spindles, 1,164 looms, of which 978 are mor e<br />

than 32 inches wide ; employs about 50 0<br />

hands and has a weekly production of 50,00 0<br />

March, 1872, and was succeeded by Georg e<br />
