• Objective 1B: Missouri’s system <strong>of</strong> higher education will become more<br />

affordable to more Missourians.<br />

• Objective 1C: Missouri’s higher education system will demonstrate continual<br />

improvement or sustained excellence in student learning outcomes<br />

• Objective 1D: Increase college attendance rate <strong>of</strong> high school students.<br />

• Objective 1E: Increase college attendance rate <strong>of</strong> non-traditional students.<br />

Goal 2: Missouri’s higher education system will contribute to a dynamic, informationbased,<br />

globally competitive society and economy by collaborating with government and<br />

business.<br />

• Objective 2A: Missouri’s higher education system will demonstrate<br />

improvement in meeting the workforce needs <strong>of</strong> Missouri.<br />

• Objective 2B: Missouri’s higher education system will increase the number <strong>of</strong><br />

degrees and certificates awarded in METS-related and health practitioner fields.<br />

• Objective 2C: Missouri’s higher education system will increase the number <strong>of</strong><br />

graduate degrees awarded in critical fields.<br />

• Objective 2D: Missouri’s higher education system will increase the amount and<br />

scope <strong>of</strong> basic and applied research and development activity to the extent<br />

consistent with institutional missions.<br />

• Objective 2E: Missouri institutions will increase learning experiences beyond<br />

the classroom and service activities beyond the campus in support <strong>of</strong> promoting<br />

civic engagement, understanding international and cultural issues, and<br />

improving critical thinking.<br />

Goal 3: Missouri’s higher education system will increase external financial support<br />

for higher education by demonstrating its value to key stakeholders and public policymakers<br />

while understanding that shared responsibility is necessary for providing a<br />

globally competitive workforce, creating valuable new knowledge and products, and<br />

enriching the quality <strong>of</strong> life <strong>of</strong> all Missourians.<br />

• Objective 3A: Missouri’s higher education system will increase the efficiency<br />

with which students move to graduation.<br />

• Objective 3B: Missouri’s higher education system will annually attract<br />

additional resources.<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Louis</strong> Community College has celebrated the intersection <strong>of</strong> the state’s strategic<br />

plan with the institution’s strategic plan and has been acknowledged at the state level<br />

for this effort. Through the leadership <strong>of</strong> Chancellor Zelema Harris, Vice Chancellor<br />

Donna Dare, and Institutional Research Director John Cosgrove, STLCC was a<br />

significant player in the development <strong>of</strong> the state’s plan. Efforts are ongoing to position<br />

the College for successful measurement toward achieving the objectives <strong>of</strong> the state’s<br />

plan and the choices <strong>of</strong> the institutional plan. In <strong>June</strong> <strong>2009</strong>, the <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>of</strong> Missouri is<br />

publishing the first baseline report for Imperatives for Change.<br />
