will be leaving for the Academy in Colorado Springs,<br />

comes to a close, JAFCO begins thinking of next semester and the<br />

This class is offered by ACBL certified instructor Marilyn Kroll on<br />

Beginner/Refresher Canasta<br />

Want to take class this summer? Offered to men and women, this<br />

class is taught by professional instructors Harriette lion and Rhoda<br />

Bagen. A six week class of two-hour sessions is being offered on<br />

Mondays at 10 a.m. at the Clubhouse. The cost is $75 per person and<br />

classes begin on July 2. Sign up at the Box Office. A minimum of<br />

four students are required.<br />

Beginner/Refresher Poker & Pinochle<br />

Valencia Reserve Resident Lou Orenstein has graciously offered to<br />

teach Poker and Pinochle for free. The classes are for beginners and<br />

those needing a refresher. Classes are held on Mondays and Fridays<br />

at 1 p.m. in the Poker Room. For more information, contact lou<br />

Ceramics/Greenware Class<br />

This class is offered every Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Arts<br />

& Crafts Room. Material costs vary depending on the price of the<br />

Delicious Mah Jongg Babes<br />

learn this traditional favorite game or brush up<br />

on your skills. Class is taught by our own VR<br />

Resident Janie Ronik and is only $5 to cover<br />

costs. Janie has headed up north for the summer,<br />

Mosaic and Collage Class<br />

Join us every Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Arts & Crafts Room. no<br />

experience is necessary for this unique class taught by fellow resident<br />

Helene levin. lessons are free and supplies are available for purchase<br />

Tap Dance Class<br />

Join us on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Aerobics Room for a 6-week<br />

course with 45-minute sessions starting June 5. The cost is $90 or<br />

$20 per class for walk-ins. We need a minimum of eight to hold this<br />

class, but can take up to 15. The professional instructor has 25 years<br />

of experience and promises good fun and exercise too! Drop checks<br />

payable to Jacqui Garver at the Box Office by June 4. Class will not<br />

be held on July 3 due to holiday.<br />

Total Health Systems Fitness Classes<br />

In June, the cost is $24 for four classes if paid in advance. In July, the<br />

cost is $30 for five classes if paid in advance. Walk-ins are welcome<br />

for $10 if space permits.<br />

20/20/20<br />

This class features 20 minutes of aerobics, 20 minutes of standing<br />

strength and balance work, and 20 minutes of floor work including<br />

strength and stretching. Classes are held every Tuesday at 9 a.m. and<br />

5:30 p.m. and every Thursday at 8 a.m. in the Aerobics Room.<br />

Line Dancing<br />

Join us every Thursday at 4:15 p.m. in the Aerobics Room for this<br />

fun class. you won’t even know you’re exercising while you learn all<br />

the latest moves!<br />

Meditation<br />

Reduce tension and stress while feeling happier, more relaxed and at<br />

peace with yourself. Improve your health, mental clarity and vitality.<br />

Develop a more intuitive, heart-centered way of life and discover and<br />

explore your inner spiritual nature. This class meets every Thursday<br />

at 5:30 p.m. in the Aerobics Room.<br />

Water Aerobics<br />

Increase balance, flexibility and range of motion safely while<br />

improving your cardiovascular system using a noodle & water<br />

weights. Classes are held every Monday and Wednesday morning<br />

at 10:30 a.m. in the Pool.<br />

Yoga<br />

yoga is a gentle way of moving and<br />

breathing to increase energy, balance,<br />

focus and relaxation. The untraditional<br />

postures include standing, sitting and lying<br />

down. This class is offered on Monday<br />

mornings at 9 a.m. in the Social Hall.<br />

Zumba<br />

A fusion of latin and International music/<br />

dance themes create a fun, dynamic and<br />

effective fitness class. Zumba combines<br />

easy-to-follow dance steps with fast and<br />

slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the<br />

body. Classes are held every Friday at 8<br />

a.m. in the Aerobics Room.<br />

trainers, group exercise instructors and physical therapists want to<br />

remind all our snowbirds and snowflakes about the importance of<br />

staying fit and healthy while you are away. Continuing on with the<br />

On The Courts<br />

League Play ~ The Men’s and Women’s Spring Claymates<br />

season has begun. The men have entered three teams into the<br />

league and the women have entered one team. Join us to watch<br />

some great tennis and cheer on our teams. The men play on<br />

Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. The ladies team, captained by Donna<br />

Perelman and Judy Kalb, play on Mondays and Wednesdays<br />

at 9:30 a.m. and are in third place with four matches left to<br />

play.<br />

Pizza & Beer Mixer ~ This popular mixer continues<br />

on the second Friday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The cost<br />

is only $10 per person for a fun night out! Sign up on the<br />

bulletin board at the Pro Shop.<br />

Mixed Round Robin ~ Join us every Saturday at 8 a.m.<br />

on the courts for a coed round robin. A donation of just a $1<br />

per week covers costs. no reservations are necessary.<br />

Men’s Doubles Round Robin ~ Every Wednesday at<br />

7 p.m., the men are invited to come out and play in a doubles<br />

round robin. It’s a great way to work on your game. Meet at<br />

the Tennis Pro Shop. no reservations are necessary.<br />

Mixed Couples Tennis ~ Every Tuesday at<br />

7:30 p.m., couples are invited for a round robin. Sign up at the<br />

Clinics ~ Improve your game at our ladies’ clinics every<br />

Wednesday. The intermediate clinic begins at 4:30 p.m.<br />

followed by the beginners clinic at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $10<br />

a person. even if you have never hit a ball or have not played<br />

since wooden rackets, come out and get back into tennis!<br />

Grand Opening for Additional courts<br />

Residents enjoyed a lovely breakfast to celebrate the opening<br />

of the final four tennis courts on April 28. The rain may have<br />

put a damper on the great pro exhibition planned, but Valencia<br />

Reserve tennis enthusiasts showed up despite the weather to<br />

enjoy breakfast, door prizes and to show support for the Men’s<br />

Grand Slam Champions in World Division II. The team was<br />

presented with a congratulations banner! Way to go!<br />
