3.4 Endangered Ecological Communities<br />

Of <strong>the</strong> 62 vegetati<strong>on</strong> communities delineated in<br />

this survey, 37 are equivalent to nine Endangered<br />

Ecological Communities (EEC) listed under <strong>the</strong><br />

Threatened Species C<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> Act 1995 (TSC) (Table<br />

3(vi)). The data collected in this survey improves <strong>the</strong><br />

knowledge <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> floristic variati<strong>on</strong>, structure <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

distributi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong>se EECs <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> FNC <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> New South<br />

Wales. These EECs are much more diverse in terms<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> species compositi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> community types than<br />

currently documented in <strong>the</strong> final determinati<strong>on</strong>s by<br />

<strong>the</strong> NSW Scientific Committee (established under <strong>the</strong><br />

NSW Threatened Species C<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> Act 1995).<br />

The present survey also improves <strong>the</strong> knowledge <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<strong>the</strong> variati<strong>on</strong> in, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> floristic compositi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

3.5 Taxa <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> significance<br />

Of <strong>the</strong> 1027 taxa recorded during <strong>the</strong>se surveys, 21<br />

are listed as endangered species, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> 18 as vulnerable<br />

species, under <strong>the</strong> TSC; 11 are ROTAP species<br />

(Briggs & Leigh 1996); <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> five regi<strong>on</strong>ally rare taxa<br />

were recorded (Sheringham & Westaway, 1995). A<br />

total <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 20 species are listed under <strong>the</strong> Envir<strong>on</strong>ment<br />

Protecti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Biodiversity C<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> Act 1999<br />

(Comm<strong>on</strong>wealth) (EPBC). The most frequently<br />

recorded rare plant in <strong>the</strong> survey was Cordyline<br />

c<strong>on</strong>gesta, which was recorded at 35 sites <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> from<br />

11 communities. Endi<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>ra globosa (22 sites) <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Cupaniopsis newmanii (17 sites) were also comm<strong>on</strong>ly<br />

recorded.<br />

Within <strong>the</strong> four primary vegetati<strong>on</strong> groups identified,<br />

no threatened plant species were recorded in Primary<br />

Group 1 – Saline wetl<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>s. Nine threatened or<br />

significant plant species were recorded in Primary<br />

Group 2 – Freshwater, seas<strong>on</strong>ally–permanently<br />

inundated soils: Cladium procerum, Cordyline c<strong>on</strong>gesta,<br />

Trichosan<strong>the</strong>s subvelutina, Acr<strong>on</strong>ychia littoralis (Scented<br />

Acr<strong>on</strong>ychia), Arthrochilus prolixus, Scleria levis,<br />

Eleocharis tetraquetra, Scleria rugosa <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Persicaria
