It takes skill and experience to provide the training, assessment, and support necessary to make and maintain quality mentoring relationships. The majority of our staff members are trained social workers, most of whom hold professional licenses and have career or educational backgrounds in issues affecting women and girls. These are the people who answer the calls coming from girls and families requesting a Big Sister. They raise critical funds needed to support our mentoring programs. They recruit women to become Big Sisters. They lead our Group Mentoring programs. They train other youth-serving agencies in gender-sensitive programming. They make mentoring relationships and support them. No matter what their role, our entire staff is dedicated to our mission of helping girls realize their full potential by providing them with positive mentoring relationships with women. Our Board of Directors and Advisory Board are composed of members from diverse industries and professions, who lend their skills and talents to increase the capacity of the organization. Through their work on committees and fundraising events they play a major role in expanding the Big Sister community. Our Young Professional Board creates opportunities for us to further our reach by connecting Big Sister with the next generation of philanthropists. This diverse group of under-40 leaders is charged with engaging the young professional community of Boston in our volunteer and fundraising activities.
